Facebook breakup could boost China rivals: Sandberg

Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg said Friday a breakup of big US technology would not address "underlying issues" facing the sector and suggested that such a move could help rivals in China.

Sandberg, interviewed on CNBC television, was asked about the latest calls to break up Facebook and other major Silicon Valley firms which dominate key sectors.

"You could break us up, you could break other tech companies up, but you actually don't address the underlying issues people are concerned about," Sandberg said in the interview.

Sandberg said the social network used by more than two billion people was working to address concerns about election security, online violence promotion and data protection, but that a breakup might only serve to help competitors from China.

Yeah we’ll take care of that roadblock when we run into it.

Fact is FB, google, Amazon and some others are no longer companies selling a product or service.

They are mouthpieces for a single party and they also happen to be suppressing freedom of speech on a large scale.

Yesterday, Facebook announce it had eliminated two billion fake accounts, so their user numbers are extremely dubious.

A big BS. Facebook has totally overwhelmed the idiot Zuckerberg. And it couldn’t happen to a more rotten guy.

Snort. I already find WeChat far more useful than the spyware called Facebook Messenger, which should be uninstalled immediately from any device you have it on.

No conservative should support the forced breakup of FB, Google, Twitter, et al. They’re not utilities.

But a wedge must exist between infrastructure and news/media; e.g., Comcast, ATT.

And while many “conservatives” bitch about the likes of FB, they’ll happily patronize Disney which owns no less than ABC and ESPN — two virulent anti-conservative operations.

Don’t be an absent-minded chump.

I don’t think anyone cares about a high tech advertising company.
Nothing they produce is of any useful value other than WhatsApp and they bought that company.

I’m concerned about Big Tech....the digital public square being monopolized in the hands of a few giants who all lean one way politically and who blatantly censor anybody who disagrees with their Leftist politics Sheryl. In fact, that’s my chief concern about Big Tech.

So, why would breaking these monopolies up not solve the problem?

FaceBook is a service. It’s a mistake to call it high tech. It’s like a successful newspaper or taxi service. FB uses technology.

Yes they are utilities. They were given the same legal protection as a utility because they were a common carrier and said they exercise no editorial control.

Strip that lawsuit protection or break em up.

The ‘founders’ of Facebook committed stock fraud with their IPO claiming millions of accounts that could not be there as it included all the population of the USA and Europe at the time.
This past week Facebook deleted 3 billion fake accounts.
Of course the holders of the stock will keep the money they made from fraud.

You’re inventing legal criteria to force the opposition to play “fair” — and that’s exactly what the Left does. Recall the Fairness Doctrine?

We’re not forced to participate on Twitter, FB, and Google. And these corps do not limit our abilities to use the Internet. Yes, they suck in terms of destroying the traditional fabric of the Country, but we’re not forced to pay for it nor participate.

On the other hand, both Comcast and TWC/ATT are in fact the real FCC regulated utilities that also have control of the news over regulated frequencies and the Internet. If you’re a subscriber to either of these companies, then you are indeed patronizing the malicious corporations that almost placed Hillary into Office.

FRegards
