A St. John's man accused of possessing child pornography in an unusual case involving what's been described as a child sex doll has been found not guilty.
The provincial court trial of Kenneth Harrisson, 54, is believed to have been the first in Canada dealing with child pornography charges involving a sex doll.
In his decision Thursday morning, Judge Mark Pike said he believed the doll linked to Harrisson is child pornography, but the Crown hadn't proven Harrisson's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.... ...Harrisson testified in court that he had ordered an adult doll, not the one that arrived in Canada from Japan in January 2013.
Buckingham also questioned the notion that the sex doll that was seized is child pornography.
"The piece of foam that is before the court, in my opinion and it's only my opinion, is not child pornography. The judge has made a decision otherwise and that stands," he said.
Buckingham also spoke about the impact the six years since his arrest have had on Harrisson.
"It has been draining. It has affected possibly job prospects. The strain was seen when he was giving evidence in his own defence."
Early this year, while Harrisson was testifying, he collapsed and was taken to hospital in an ambulance.
While speaking with reporters Buckingham was confronted by child protection advocate Linda Beaudoin, who asked the lawyer if he was a "pedophile sympathizer."
"Are you an asshole?" Buckingham responded. "That's an insult to me as a member of the bar.".....

The doll must be manufactured 18 years ago or your going to jail.
My guess is that he does indeed have child porn on his ‘puter. And probably has other proof of being a child molester.
But not enough to convict.
So they hung him out to dry on this sex doll charge.
Which works for me. Whatever it takes to get child molesting perverts off the streets.
If it is legal in Japan then the court should err in favor of it being legal in Canada absent an act of Parliament to the contrary.
Is there an actual victim here?
Unfortunately, they did.
But the fact they tried him, on a sex doll case?
Shows they tried.
I’ve been wondering about this for over a decade. Pedo acts are illegal because they involve photos of real kids or interactions with real kids. What happens when explicit movies are made with CGI? i.e. no kids involved.
Will that be a violation of the law? Based on this case, it appears not.
This case has been dragging on since 2013.
Enough time for the whole continent to learn of his connection to this event.
Yes, indirectly.
Next time, it won’t be a child sex doll that will satisfy this pervert. But the real deal.
I read somewhere that the majority of sex workers in this world are children. Under 18.
Child sex dolls only feed the beast.
“Is there an actual victim here?”
The perverted POS that had the child sex doll is in fact the “victim”.
A piece of plastic is not “Child Porn”.
But what if the doll consents?
Given how low the rates of such crimes are in Japan where this stuff is ubiquitous, the presumption is that one leads to the other is provably false.
Meanwhile homosexuality is perfectly legal and the evidence that it is inextricably intertwined with child rape is overwhelming.
This looks like a lot of virtue signaling that doesn’t actually help any child, but only the careers of the signalers.
“Child sex dolls only feed the beast.”
Assuming (and I agree) that what you say is true, then they ought to be illegal.
Though I do believe that the US and/or Canadian Constitutions will not allow that.
The same would be true of CGI generated porn.
If that were the case, 1,000 guys on FR would go on the streets after looking at porn and grab the first woman they saw.
They dont.
Rofl
That was ####ing hysterical!!! :)
How do you determine a doll is a child doll or an adult? The governments need to define this before they falsely accuse people based on arbitrary standards.
The sizes of the dolls range from Looking like a 6” minature woman, to 3’ high dolls, to ‘over 5’ high. And you can order then with any size cup. If you order an A cup, does that imply you want a child?
The accused? It’s certainly arguable that that’s the case, anyway.
Crime? What crime? What is a crime here in the US and in Canada is legal in Japan.
