Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is calling on the Christian right to uphold their principles on one key issue: interest rates.
The freshman lawmaker and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) have introduced a bill to cap interest rates at 15 percent.
It would cut rates ― often dramatically ― on credit cards, and hit the payday loan industry and other predatory lenders.
On Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez challenged the religious right to support the bill, pointing out that usury is explicitly denounced in the Bible.
Then, she knocked them for using religion to take rights away from people... but not when it helps them:
Given that Republicans control the Senate, the bill has little chance of passage there.
But if Mitch McConnell wants to actually use religious principles for good + reinstate usury laws, hes more than welcome, Ocasio-Cortez added in a followup tweet, referring to the Senate majority leader.

Wait, so she thinks if things are denounced in the Bible then there should be laws against them?
Is she sure about that?
Hmmmm? How about capping the total tax rate anyone has to pay at 15% based on same confiscatory standard?
Well, while we’re at it, let’s discuss the “Thou shall not kill” thingy. Ya know, like...babies and stuff...
Hey...it works for Islam. </sarcasm>
According to Cortez, we no longer need abortion, because women and men will wait until marriage to have sex, and only to produce children. And, all Americans will now become Christians and go from house to house, breaking bread and praising the Lord. Cortez is calling for everyone to follow the bible now
Good point
In the US, religion is a right in our Constitution.
Religion is voluntary, not mandated by the government.
So God gives us advice on how to live our lives so that we can join Him in Heaven when we leave this corrupt world.
God gives us free will to choose, not mandated laws to enrich the politicians.
bttt
She can read?
I’m shocked
I take it she gets all the leavings from whatever crop or industry.
What would AOC know about the Bible in the first place?
Actually “usury” as we define it now is not actually addressed in scripture. The OT prohibits Jews from charging any interest (often translated as usury) to other Jews but allows Jews to charge interest to Gentiles. Certainly the NT acknowledges the concept of interest without condemning it. General Christian morality would frown upon the concept of excessive interest.
Next Bible passages....how about the slaughter of pre-separation infants? How about "teaching people to fish" instead of handouts?
No. Moses didn't come down from the mount with the "Ten Suggestions."
This ignorant childish bossy socialist knows NOTHING about ANYTHING!
Rule of Faith 101,
NEVER take religious advice from an atheist or a Democrat (they are pretty much the same thing). Atheists and Democrats only quote scripture when they want to manipulate you.
This from the chick who just discovered that vegetables grow out of dirt and how a garbage disposer works...
