Harriet Tubman won’t be featured on the $20 bill until 2028: Mnuchin

Anti-slavery activist Harriet Tubman won’t appear on US currency for nearly a decade, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Wednesday.

An image of Tubman, a former slave who helped others escape to freedom through the Underground Railroad, was supposed to replace President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill next year.

“The primary reason we’ve looked at redesigning the $20 bill is for counterfeiting issues,” Mnuchin said in front of Congress on Wednesday.

“Based upon this, the new $20 bill will now not come out until 2028,” he added.

President Trump criticized the plan to replace Jackson on the note during the 2016 presidential campaign.

I read up a little on Tubman, and she is deserving of respect. Is she a good candidate for replacing Jackson? Should Jackson be removed? No.

This is still more of the gaming of our culture by activists.

I have a lot of respect for George Washington Carver and Booker T. Washington. Do they need to be on a bill? No!

Pretty soon we’ll be demanded to have women, gays, LGBTs, and different races represented on the bills.

I’m not for opening the door to that nonsense.

These three people should be praised and heralded for their efforts to overcome and succeed. I respect them.

Leave our currency out of it.

No in 2028 too.

Nice to see a gun-toting Republican on a bill

...and it must be equally nice to see Left's agenda of erasing the historical memory of "dead white men" with "women and people of color" implemented, with help from politically correct Republicans /sarc>.

Shouldnt be on there at all.

Of course not - but try explaining that to the people on this thread who stupidly equate today's Democrats and Republicans and today's political debates/ideological spectrum with yesterdays. The "Jackson was a Democrat" and "Confederates were Democrats" propaganda line is used as a ruse by the Left to wage their culture war against "dead white males", this time with the help of less than sharp GOP establishmentarians who can't think about issues apart from party loyalty.

Politics aside, Harriet Tubman is a historical footnote. If you're going to take a major historical figure like Jackson off the bill, at least replace him with someone of equal significance. Tubman doesn't even come close, nor does any female "minority". The only reason there was talk of putting Tubman's snarling mug there is symbolic affirmative action.

It’s disgusting the ignorance on this forum

What's really disgusting is seeing how many conservatives are willing to do the Left's dirty work for them. Obama and the folks at Antifa must be laughing all the way to the bank every time a conservative joins the mob in tearing down the memory of some politically incorrect historical figure and replacing it with that of an affirmative action "minority."

We could bestow the Nikki Haley Award on GOP tub thumpers who assist the Left in eradicating American heroes who don’t meet their Politically Correct standards.

There is no shortage of qualified candidates it seems.

Von Mises referred to the confused and misguided sympathizers of leftist goals as “useful innocents”.

Lenin had more contempt for those he duped, calling them “useful idiots”.

The predictable end of replacing Andrew Jackson is that he will simply be the first of many. Other than the two Adams, most of the Founders will be fair game for removal. George Washington will hold on longest but those who think he’s too important to get the guillotine don’t understand what is going on.

This is very much like immigration was not long ago, when so many were siding with Dubya’s treachery.

Great. Now I will have the theme song of that show playing in my brain all the way to Maine.

Nellie’s husband went on to be the douchy owner of a Catskill’s resort that put Baby in the corner and then died of AIDS. The end.

(Cue Melissa Gilbert running through prairie grass)

I can think of worse theme songs to play in your head (and I don’t want to cite any lest I can’t get it out).

Steve Tracy, I hadn’t thought of that guy in a long time.

I thought it was Carrie Ingalls who went running through the tallgrass ?

Obama and the Left will forever want to fracture and change American society. They are evil, backwards, and poison for America. Don't enable them to continue to do their evil deeds with this antichrist PC crusade.

You put Founders on currency. Are we a country of slavery? No. Obama would like us to be so but he is wrong. We are not the United States of Slavery. Only race hustlers think like that. It is backwards to keep focusing on evil from the past. Obama and the left want us to devolve. Even so why Tubman? Why not General Grant or a famous abolitionist of that time. Why not the RNC logo since it was founded as an anti slavery party. In the mind of Obama and the left they want to fundamental change American identify, break the public’s unity apart and usher in socialism, communism and that is why.
