Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin sat before the House Financial Services Committee on Wednesday to face a group of Democrats who want President Trump's tax returns. The House Ways and Means Committee recently issued a subpoena for six years of returns, which the administration rejected.
Mnuchin's letter to the Democrats concluded that their request "lacks a legitimate legislative purpose." A federal judge upheld the subpoena, but it was perhaps no surprise considering he was appointed by President Obama. Additionally, the chief counsel's office drafted an IRS memo noting that chairmen of congressional committees don't need "a legitimate legislative purpose" for requesting tax returns.
Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) felt compelled to give Mnuchin a constitutional lesson on the three coequal branches of government at Wednesday's hearing.
"The executive branch, right?" she asked sarcastically. "Which executes the laws. You don't make the laws. We make the laws," she said, pointing to herself and her colleagues.
"I understand there are three branches of government and they perform different functions," Mnuchin coolly responded.
The witness continued to defend Trump's decision not to comply with their demands, insisting he had not violated the law. Since he wasn't giving the Democrats what they wanted, they warned him to get a lawyer.
Rep Tlaib tells Mnuchin to seek out personal legal advice in regards to the coverup going on in the White House.
"Secretary, please seek out legal advice personally, of what your obligations are, because the Department of Justice is not protecting you, it's protecting the president," Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) suggested.
Using the same phrase Pelosi used this morning, Tlaib accused Mnuchin of engaging in a "cover-up" on behalf of the occupant of the White House.
Democrats noted as soon as they won the House last fall that obtaining Trump's tax returns was going to be one of their top priorities .
The Dem leadership made their followers buy into the “Collusion” lie for so long, and eventually they seem to have even bought into it they must save face now that their precious Muller report didn’t have the desired facts they were pushing for 2 years.
Just like the claimed collusion, they are now claiming a cover up and trying to fish for facts to make it true.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.Mueller could not find cause to indict Trump. So where is the probable cause for Congress to go after Trump's private financial papers?
Of course when these mental giants think theres wrongdoing it must be so, thus the fishing expedition.
2) It really doesn’t matter if they find evidence of illegal action...they are just looking for something they can confuse people into thinking might be illegal.
Immediately after Pelosi's meeting about impeachment with the democRATS in the House this morning, this is word emerged as the new democRAT talking point about Trump.
Congressmen and media will follow her lead and start to use the "C" word....Coverup...regularly.
The new word of the day this week is "coverup" as in, "Trump is covering up. He's got something to hide. If he doesn't tell us what he and his administration are hiding, we may have no choice but to impeach him."
Trump has now said, no more legislation until they stop investigating him. This may backfire on the democRATS. It takes two to tango and with only one partner on the dance floor, the democRATS will look bad if they don't start doing their jobs of passing laws to help Americans instead of just trying to crucify Trump without his cooperation.
Gotta say...right, wrong, or just plain stupid, I have to admire the speed with which the dhimmicraps distribute their talking points memos...
Also, before a zookeeper puts her in a cage, she ought to get a face transplant, too.
Honestly, I’ve seen better looking mugs on the rear end of a mule.
“There is simply no place in an open society for a secret court for any purpose.”
Especially when you consider that 96-98 percent of all FISA affidavits are approved. Consider also that FBI agent Colleen Rowley submitted a FISA affidavit to seize and exploit the contents of Zacarias Moussaoui’s (the so-called
19th hijacker; he wasn’t) emails, computer, etc. about a month prior to 9/11. The FBI General Counsel disapproved the affidavit, 9/11 occurred (obviously) and the GC got a $25,000 SES performance award in December 2001.
You just can’t make this shit up.
