The Nevada Senate approved Tuesday a National Popular Vote bill on a party-line vote, sending the legislation aimed at upending the Electoral College to the governor.
Assembly Bill 186, which passed the Senate on a 12-8 vote, would bring Nevada into the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, an agreement between participating states to cast their electoral votes for the winner of the popular vote.
If signed as expected by Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak, Nevada would become the 16th jurisdiction to join the compact, along with 14 states and the District of Columbia. The compact would take effect after states totaling 270 electoral votes, and with Nevada, the total would reach 195.
While the effort has been billed by organizers as bipartisan, Democrats have embraced the NPV in the aftermath of President Trumps 2016 victory, which saw the Republican win the electoral vote but not the popular vote.
Leftist groups like Common Cause, Indivisible and Public Citizen cheered the Nevada vote.

NVGOP is dead. Killed by Amy, my husband can’t win an election, Tarktanian.
“No interstate compacts.” But that will have to wind up in the Supreme Court, and no one will have standing until an election gets screwed up. Or, that’s one way it could play out.
This is vote nullification and a violation of equal protections. So what if there is massive voter fraud in another state that changes the national total?
Translation: “Let’s disenfranchise our citizens if they don’t vote our way.”
This is great. Now the citizens of NV won’t have to bother with voting as the electoral votes will be controlled by other states. Just think of the time and effort that will be saved not having to mark ballots or count the votes. Brilliant !
Do I really need to add the sarcasm tag?
So effectively the NV legislature is giving up NV’s right to vote in the electoral college. They are dismissing their own voter’s desires and embracing the national popular vote.
I’d think that would be an election issue in the next campaign.
Can the SC stop this foolish nonsense if a lawsuit if filed by the disfranchised voters? Isn’t the EC in the Constitution? I’m surprised no one from Trump’s team and the RNC has said diddley squat!! What’s going on?!
The GOP needs to challenge the constitutionality of these compacts now.
NV will vote in the electoral college, but the national results will govern where their electoral votes go.
There is a mass migration of minorities from California coming to Las Vegas because of cheaper real estate. My neighborhood area is changing fast and will be a ghetto in three years or sooner. Nevada will be as blue as California.
You see that tiny wedge called Nevada someplace squished between Nothing and Nowhere Important?
The Nevada democrats though, following their marching orders from the national party, don’t care about their state at all. Only International Socialism Uber All!
THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will the feckless GOP do anything???????
Makes me sad, very sad.
This is how you lose a country!!
How about an interstate compact to enforce the Second Amendment?
And what is their road to 270? No big population blue states remain. The outstanding big population states are red.
All those in the middle have small number.
Nevada Senate: “Fellow Nevadans, from here on, we will let NY City and LA County decide on the President for us!”
The law isnt in effect yet, so nope. You have to have standing to bring a case. Which means we have to wait for it to go in effect and have to wait for a candidate to get screwed.
This is a total disaster waiting to happen. And there is nothing we can do about it until it blows up.
