Dozens of students and faculty members at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana walked out of a graduation ceremony ahead of Vice President Mike Pences commencement address on Saturday, according to a report.
The Indianapolis Star reports the planned protest came after intense debate over the appropriateness of the vice presidents speech before the nondenominational Christian liberal arts school.
A vast majority Taylors graduating class stayed in their seats as Pence took the stage. He received a standing ovation following the walk-out.
In his remarks, Pence urged students and faculty to stand tall against increasing hostility against Christians. Throughout most of our American history its been pretty easy to call yourself a Christian, but things are different now, Pence said. Lately, its become acceptable, even fashionable, to malign traditional Christian beliefs.
Laura Rathburn, one of the 494 graduating students, protested Pences visit by decorating her cap with a rainbow with the message: Ally Visible For Those Who Cant Be.

Inviting Vice President Pence to Taylor University and giving him a coveted platform for his political views makes our alumni, faculty, staff and current students complicit in the Trump-Pence Administrations policies, which we believe are not consistent with the Christian ethic of love we hold dear, wrote one signee.
Dozens.............
“vast majority did not walk out”
I had Ann Richards the governor of Texas as my speaker. I did not bitch or moan.
It is about the moment and not the person speaking.
By dozens do they mean 24?
What a bunch of snowflakes. Grow up.
Should have been the headline
Agree with this but to be a Republican and a Christian is apparently worse.
A Christian school: I wonder if there are any Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, or atheist students there. They would all seem to be unwelcome.
College. Where there are safe rooms, crayons & coloring books, speech codes for the perpetually offended. Closed minds thinking they’re enlightened.
I don’t believe there are sny other types of Christians in this country.
Weird thing to happen at Taylor. I would say the protestors are fringe.
I read last night that it was 15 students and 1 faculty member...
If we want this to stop, we have to stop giving attention to the attention seekers.
It was 15 students out the whole class. Not “dozens.”
Pence was well received:

Didn’t learn jack at this school apparently. F ‘em.
So a bakers’ dozen plus.
These wimpy little protest actions just show that these people are not really and truly committed to the cause.
If they really wanted to make a statement, they would kill themselves in protest.
Then, I could take them seriously.
Hopefully the fifteen that walked out can be identified so employers know who to stay away from. These petulant children would be nothing but trouble in the workplace.
At MIT, I had Paul Tsongas.
I just didn’t bother to go.
