From reparations to "baby bonds," Democratic candidates are proposing big ideas to confront inequality.
If youve been to an event with a Democrat running for president this year, there's a good chance youve heard about it: the racial wealth gap.
Candidates are regularly bringing up the fact that the typical black family has only one-tenth the assets of the typical white family a divide that has grown larger than it was 35 years ago.
Far from a niche concern, candidates have incorporated it into their signature proposals. They've addressed it in speeches not just to black churches in South Carolina, but also to mostly white town hall crowds in Iowa and New Hampshire.
In many ways, it's a defining issue of the 2020 cycle so far, one that brings together multiple trends that are transforming the party: the rising clout of nonwhite voters, a rush to embrace more ambitious policy, and heightened concerns about both racism and inequality under President Donald Trump.

It’s an ambition gap, that causes the wealth gap.
LOL, looks straight out of the list from Chris Rock’s “How Not To Get Your Ass Kicked By The Police”, all we need is to add, “Get a White Friend”
But they have very expensive, hair, nails, clothes, jewelry, etc.
If any of this passes, I'm investing in Black cosmetics industries.
I believe the Clinton’s could dip into their $200 MILLION or more account and life up a lot of black families. I do believe that Cory Booker, Bernie Sanders, Lizard Warren, the 0bama’s and a host of other democrats could do the same.
Politics of envy. Long a Demorat staple.
Its not how much money you make. Its what you do with it that determines your financial condition. Giving money to people doesn’t change their spending habits one bit. They will squander it all over again.
What is it called when a Government controls how much money a person can or should make? Then take money from some and gives it to others to make things equal.
Communism isn’t it?
If any of this passes, I’m investing in Black cosmetics industries.

Don’t forget the luxury car industry and companies that make bling and expensive clothes.
I still see more blacks and Hispanics driving cars more expensive than mine. Some of them must be doing well.
“Im sure dropping out of high school, shunning trade schools or college, having kids out of wedlock, refusing to get married, shooting up drugs and failing to hold a steady job because it isnt fun, fulfilling or whatever has nothing to do with this gap. Right?”
All that and more... for example, demonRats want to accomplish the equality thing while at the same time instituting socialism, a known money losing venture! What could possibly go wrong?
No the Democrats will never talk of such issues. To them, everything affecting minority groups is due to racism, bigotry, and Donald Trump.
Typical racist ‘Rats.
I believe in equal opportunity.
I do NOT believe in equal results.
LOL! Any newfound wealth would all be spent in a couple of weeks, if not days.
Funny how Democrats almost never mention that.
Contrary to the media narrative, there is no better time to be black in America than today.
Blacks enjoy outsized political power, and outsized societal focus, sympathy, protection and benefits.
The problem is - only a thin segment of the USA’s black population will be able capitalize on it.
We were probably the last people in our neighborhood to switch from a VHS to a DVD and to buy a flat screen. We still own only the 32" flatscreen we first bought.
It’s all for votes and power.
