Trump can be THE transformational immigration and border security president. Here’s how

Thursday afternoon, the president plans to roll out his master plan for immigration and border security reform. Administration officials have briefing on the plan for weeks so the news won’t be what’s in the plan. Still, this could be a historic day. For over a decade, Washington has utterly failed to address these issues. Thursday could be the start of a turnaround.

It won’t be easy. Every combination of Democratic and Republican leadership so far has fallen flat on its face trying to fix the problem. The question is, why?

There’s no reason for it. Americans are in about 80 percent agreement on what we want the government to do. The problem is that Washington has always come at the problem by insisting any solution start with compromising on the 20 percent we don’t all agree on. Everything had to be tied up in a big comprehensive ObamaCare-like bill that started with delivering amnesty and then promising to fix everything else on the backend.

This hostage-taking legislative strategy failed – and with good reason. Americans were smarter than that.

First of all, we’ve seen that play before, as part of the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act. The U.S. gave legal status to more than three million illegal immigrants in return for … well, nothing. Americans got neither real immigration reform nor control of the border.

Fast forward to 2019, and the illegal immigrant population is four times bigger. The border is more chaotic than ever.

WHY are we seeing even one group of illegals strolling in across our border like it’s a walk in the park ?

We should be seeing vast crowds piling up in Mexico , UNABLE to cross .

Screw catch & release - NOT ONE SHOULD ENTER

If he honestly believes the number of illegals is 12 million, I’ve got a bridge for sale.

Trump can roll out whatever he wants but it is DOA. No Trump sponsored legislation will pass until after the next elections if then. Trump lost the House and they will be more likely to impeach him than to do his bidding.

What the hell is he smokin'? That only comes to 12,000,000, a figure that's been used for the last 15 years. I'd say it's at least 30,000,000 and maybe 40,000,000!

The list goes like this -
1) southern barrier;
2) require eVerify to hire;
3) end all chain migration;
4) birthright per Minor v. Happersett (plural parents);
5) end work visas;
6) 10-year moratorium on all new applications for citizenship (40 years to allow workplace automation effects on downsizing population)
7) demonstrate English proficiency to acquire citizenship and pass civics test.

WE have to stop electing Bush League Republicans.

WE have to give President Trump a Congress that will do something other than amnesty.

That’s the only solution that Bush League Republicans or Democrats will consider.

Don’t start with what doesn’t work. Don’t give us yet another comprehensive bill tied together with every special interest and unforgivable compromise. Don’t put amnesty on the table. Instead, start with the 80 percent most Americans want. Secure the border. Make our immigration laws work. Enforce them. Deliver meaningful immigration reform – reforms that make the right to join the American community based on merit.

Exactly. Why isn't Congress listening to its legal citizens?

Another issue I think they need to rethink: why bring in immigrants to fill jobs when we have millions of graduates who could fill those jobs? Start with encouraging American students to work toward a degree in jobs that need to be filled.
