What can pro-choice people of faith do to support abortion rights?
Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | 5/16/19 | Anna Hurley

By now, most of us in the Philly area following the dialogue around reproductive justice — abortion access specifically — have probably read about the most recent “incident” downtown. State Rep. Brian Sims recorded a video of himself speaking to protesters outside a Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania on Holy Thursday, recorded another video in early May, and later took to Twitter.

***

[S]omething Sims said particularly sparked my interest both as an abortion doula — someone who supports pregnant people before, during, and after the decision and process to terminate a pregnancy — and as a candidate for ordination in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

***

When I met the authors of The Doulas: Radical Care for Pregnant People, I told them I was a doula who planned to attend seminary very soon. One of them said: “Wow, this is necessary work. People frequently ask for chaplains during surgical abortions.”

People of faith, this is how we show up. We are called to be in community with those on the margins, including those seeking abortions. Connect with your local clinic to volunteer. Learn the differences among types of abortions and the out-of-pocket costs for each. Help patients raise money to fund their abortion where Medicaid does not pay for this procedure. Call people in your faith community to babysit the children of those who are going to the clinic for the second time because they had to wait 24 hours to get their medication or have their procedure. Offer to drive someone to their appointment and sit in the waiting room, because often times partners, spouses, or other support people cannot take off work for multiple appointments.

People of faith is a term for fake Christians or Leftist Christians in general...Neither are true believers...

They may exist but the “faith” is not a Christian faith but rather a faith in the righteousness of their own convenience regardless of what any old religious book might say. They faithfully believe that “I am right and God or those gods or whatever are wrong.

People of true faith need to start being much more vocal about calling out heresies when they are uttered.

I am just running out of words to be outraged about on this topic. The Left will literally say or do anything to counter God, his Word, his laws, his goodness, his gifts, ... and to lift up self-serving behaviors... to the severe detriment of millions.

The phrase “pro-choice people of faith” is an oxymoron to boot.

That’s pretty much the crux of it.

The whole article was a person trying to justify murdering and dismembering babies. There is no interpretation possible to justify this horrific crime.

Twisting the language to diminish what happened is a massive lie. Sims didn’t “talk” to a pro-life advocate. He yelled, screamed and berated a woman who could have been his great grandmother.

This poor excuse for a person blames pro-life people for violence and hate, while professing some kind of weird “faith”. Take heed woman, GOD WILL NOT BE MOCKED.

“pro-choice people of faith”

Exactly, the virtual definition of oxymoron.

You could encourage everyone you know to fornicate, so as to generate more people with a personal interest in abortion “rights.”

Twisting the language to diminish what happened is a massive lie.

We cannot allow the left to change the meaning of the word "doula." I just looked it up and a doula is a woman who is employed to provide guidance and support to a pregnant woman during labor or to the mother of a newborn. There is no such thing as an "abortion doula." The left probably also believes that there is a square circle.

Don’t become partners with those who do not believe. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness?

Pro-choice people of faith?

Would that be faith in Molech, Baal or the Aztec God who demanded beating hearts be cut out of young men or young maidens be thrown in deep water to drown?

Or maybe the Islam extreme version of Allah who demands children be turned into suicide bomber to kill infidels?

FWIW, I’ve never read a book by Dr. Thomas Sowell which wasn’t good . . . unless it was great.

In fairness, there are religious people who had to terminate a pregnancy because of either the mother’s health (i.e. cancer) or the viability of the fetus (severe deformity).

A religious friend of mine had to abort for the 2nd reason above. The fetus was so deformed it wouldn’t live long outside the womb. The decision was painful for her, but better in the end. And she went on to have more children.

(Interestingly, she later had another severely deformed fetus — she and her husband were a genetic time bomb — but she ended up miscarrying. Often the body will reject something non-viable.)

It’s being “pro-choice” with a very small “p.” The real issue is when the mother’s welfare takes precedence. Hopefully these are rare occurrences.

However, devaluing life is not a faith-based mentality. The so-called “minister” seems oddly disconnected, like so many radical liberals. Being around her and her ilk would make me feel like Alice at the Mad Hatter’s tea party.

Well, if they are truly people of faith, I guess they can go and worship their god.

my cousin’s wife had a late term abortion, because the doctor told her it was the best thing for her AND the baby.
all she wanted was a baby, and she felt terrible afterwards.
She could have used a doula.

“pro-choice people of faith” what is their faith in? surely not the word of God in the bible since it says though shall not kill/murder.

You sure do not have much faith in God to manage things if you support abortion rights!
