Socialism Works: Cuba Rationing Eggs, Rice and Soap

Socialism works.

If you doubt that, stop by North Korea, Venezuela or Cuba. After helping reduce Venezuela to the brink of famine, Cuba is rationing basic foodstuffs.

The Cuban government announced Friday that it is launching widespread rationing of chicken, eggs, rice, beans, soap and other basic products in the face of a grave economic crisis.

Commerce Minister Betsy Díaz Velázquez told the state-run Cuban News Agency that various forms of rationing would be employed in order to deal with shortages of staple foods. She blamed the hardening of the U.S. trade embargo by the Trump administration. Economists give equal or greater blame to a plunge in aid from Venezuela, where the collapse of the state-run oil company has led to a nearly two-thirds cut in shipments of subsidized fuel that Cuba used for power and to earn hard currency on the open market.

Cuba is experiencing severe shortages of food and other necessities.

This is what socialism is in real life.

Did Cuba get rid of Fidel Castro’s Pleasure Island, or is it just under new management?

I’ll bet there’s no rationing of girls there.

Always bothered me that we would “starve” a country.

Is it “starve a cold, feed a country?” Or “feed a cold, starve a country?” I forget.

The argument the Bernie Sanders types make is they envision a prosperous Socialism like the kind in Norway. Today’s ill-educated young people (and not so young people)have no idea what Socialism ends up in and they think they would tweak it right and it wouldn’t end up like that in the US. There might be a limit to Socialism in the US because the rich leftist elitists in Hollywood and elsewhere like keeping their OWN money, but don’t mind taking yours.

What is interesting is you never hear vegetarians or vegans ripping on socialists for eating animal products.

You’d think they would get the same screechful of bs we get.

“You don’t necessarily need a choice of 23 underarm spray deodorants when children are hungry in this country,” Sanders sneered.

Bernie...Bernie...Bernie. Over two hundred years of various Socialism experiments, from Robert Owen's New Harmony, IN, to present-day Venezuela, and not ONE of them worked. Yet, here you are saying that you're smarter than everyone else has ever been in the past 200 years and you'll do it right. If anyone believes that, I have a bridge for sale.

If you have ever been to a caribbean country you realize rice, beans, chicken, and eggs is about 80% of the food available. (fish and pork being the rest)

Don’t forget there are no toilet seats either.

Capitalism promotes abundance.
Socialism promotes scarcity.

What kind of Hell are you living in when “Rice” is rationed?

You are in a socialist paradise where owners and managers have been killed or fled. Politically connected apparatchiks have been put in charge of production.

My wife witnessed this first hand before she escaped Cuba. A loyal communist was put in charge of a large rice plantation. He decided that the Revolution needed potatoes more than rice, so he had potatoes planted in the rice paddies. Guess what, the paddies flooded as they were designed to do and the potato crop rotted. No crops at all. Just apply this example across all types of business along with the disincentives to work and you feel the Bern.

Under Socialism, people wait for food. Under Capitalism, food waits for people.

True, that.

And, if/when we are forced to take the "Medicare for all" medical miracle, there would be instant rationing of services, an immediate decline in quality and availability of medical services, and long, long waits!

Waiting in line behind families of illegal aliens to see your doctor? Socialism at its core!

.

One also has a choice of hundreds of each food product in stores in this country. Parent's children don't have to be hungry, their parents have many options here to provide food for their children - unlike in Cuba. Socialists here in the USA would rather spend time fomenting unrest than making sure their children are fed which is easily done here.
