On her MSNBC show today, Joy Reid claimed that "during the Bush era, we were . . . starving people in Guantanamo."
The truth is precisely the opposite. During the Bush era, Guantanamo officials took forceful measures to prevent people from starving. A number of prisoners had gone on hunger strikes to protest prison conditions. Among their complaints: "the prison authorities broadcast the call to prayers only four times daily, rather than the required five for religious obligations and . . . many of the detainees resented when women GIs broadcast the call to prayer."
Rather than let the prisoners starve themselves to death, the prison officials force-fed them. There has actually been criticism of the force-feeding practice. But be that as it may, it is the precise obverse of starving the prisoners.

One of them speculates that the Gitmo prisoners are starving and the rest treat it as if it were true.
The truth is that GITMO officials took forceful measures to PREVENT prisoners from starving. Prisoners were on hunger strikes, and prison officials force fed them.
The prisoners were complaining about their conditions, including fact that at times call to prayer was done 4x a day, instead of five, and that call to prayer sometimes done by female GIs.

Gitmo was a mercy way station for jihadists to build their street cred once they got back into the field. There should have NEVER been a release of any of them, yet the worst of the worst got out with relative ease.

Until there is a way to be held accountable there is no reason to tell the truth.
She should be sued and imprisoned to be an example.
Joy Reid could not care any less than she does for prisoners at Gitmo. Sanctimonious whiners. Selective outrage.
