Gillibrand calls for assault weapon and large magazine bans to combat gun violence

Presidential candidate Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., said that she does not support creating a federal firearm licensing system.

“No, I think there is a better approach,” Gillibrand told the Washington Examiner at a campaign stop in Warner, N.H., on Saturday, when asked about a plan proposed by primary rival Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J.

“To end gun violence, I would do three things,” she said. “I would, No. 1, pass universal background checks, which are commonsense and supported by 70% of America."

Gillibran is using campaign rhetoric with tired old words like universal back ground-checks, I think there are eight states with them now and the background checks mean a buyer is asked for his/her ID (yeah, the same kind you need for voting) by "the seller and fills out ATF Form 4473 with personal information such as age, address, race, and criminal history, if any."

Gillibrand knows she has to address the gun issue...she must know only the dishonest will pay absolutely no attention to her thread-bare proclamation. Honest citizens obey the laws and are protected from tyranny by the Second Amendment....Most of the Progressives are light on the US Constitution...their sworn duty is to protect the Constitution and the American citizen. I expect my elected to obey the laws and their oaths....Ms. Gillibrand thus far shows great weakness...............

Remember when Gillibrand pretended to be pro-gun rights when she represented some conservative House district in New York, then completely changed after being appointed to the U.S. Senate? Besides the lousy sentence structure in the original article, the 3 proposals either have already partially been tried -- and failed -- or would have no significant impact on the prevention of gun violence.

There should be some remedy for REMOVING ineffectual laws from the books, but no, there is only ADDITION to the ineffectual laws already on the books, that merely clutter up the actual enforcement of civil order.

And that is what laws are really for, to assure the quiet enjoyment of your daily life with no intrusions on tranquility.
