Joe Bidens recent jump to clear front-runner in the 2020 Democratic nomination contest is being credited to the concept of electability the belief that Biden, of all Democrats seeking the nomination, would represent the most formidable nominee against President Trump.
And with Democrats anger at the incumbent at a boiling point, and continued disappointment at the 2016 outcome, there is supposedly a willingness by many Democrats to compromise their real attitudes and just ensure that Trump leaves the White House.
Not so fast, some people reply, pointing out the list of times when major parties chose to nominate the Most Likely to Win candidate only to wind up losing in November, while at other times parties went with their base love and wound up moving into the White House.
Both lists are fairly long: Most Likely to Win candidates include Republican Mitt Romney in 2012 and Democrat John Kerry in 2004 both of whom lost to incumbents that the opposition considered vulnerable.
Base Love but November Poison candidates arguably include Ronald Reagan in 1980, Barack Obama in 2008, and, of course, Donald Trump in 2016. They defied predictions.
Bidens Democratic rivals suggest that they, too, have very solid chances of beating Trump in November 2020, pointing to polls that have almost all of them ahead of Trump in head-to-head matchups.

Biden is a plick.
Joe Biden 2020 = Bob Dole 1996
electability ....as far as the rats are concerned, it means if you can walk and talk without falling on your
face ya got a chance...
hitlery said it takes a village but undoubtedly it actually takes a pervert to get the democrat nomination for president this election cycle
Paraphrasing my old friend Ann Coulter:
If you’re a mainstream Republican, ‘electability’ gives you Bob Dole, John McCain, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush. etc.
Voting for the crazy conservative guy gives you President Reagan and President Trump.
Biden is their best shot, he has a history of sounding moderate by Democrat standards. He only has to flip a few thousand votes in a couple states Trump won. The media will simply not cover his child groping and Ukrainian scandals.
Joke Bitem should be in federal prison. Approaching 50 years as a co-conspirator in looting the republic. All of his assets should be seized.
Hillary was probably the most hated and she was deemed most electible so I trust they will pick another great nominee because the Democrats dont let the people decide.
She LOVED Christie.
I don't see the concern on the part of the democrats, Trump is totally unelectable. I remember in 2016 how every pole and pundit and GOP power broker made it clear that this was the case. That guy couldn't get elected dog catcher and ... oh wait. uh, never mind.
Has a penchant for groping little girls and grown women. Not a rapist like clinton but perverted and disturbed.
Yeah, and Mitt Romney too. I think she must’ve forgotten the wisdom of supporting the crazy old conservative guy,
Biden’s biggest problem is Biden. His history, his perversion, his age, his whiteness, and his Y chromosome.
And his association with Obama after all that’s going to come out between now and the election.
A politician is a bare Christmas tree. All the staffers, lawyers and lobyists are the "ornaments". With out the tree, there can be no ornaments.
Biden has good branches for lots of ornaments and special interest groups to hang upon. Lots of them!!
Nobody deemed Hillary anything. She got skunked by Obama in 2008 when it became clear that "first black President!" was more marketable than "first unlikeable shrew President!" so they cut a deal. She dropped out of the primaries and got to be SecState and he also wouldn't fight her being the one who followed him.
Without Obama in the way in 2016 she used all of the Clinton corrupt money machine to ensure that all the superdelegates were locked up, all the media sycophants were in line, and then she put her thumb on the scale to steal the nomination from Bernie, an old crazy man that people still wanted more than Hillary. Nobody picked her for the job. But even though nobody important who wasn't on her payroll other then some crazy feminist nutjobs really wanted her, they did all assume she'd win because "Obama third term!" and then "Orange man bad!" Ooops.
‘Electability’ simply means you pass muster with the party bosses.
If the head honchos don’t like you, regardless of how the people like you, you are deemed ‘unelectable’; a ‘bad’ candidate.
The RNC does it all the time.
The same thought has occurred to me. BUT, Dole was a better man, a real war hero and far more intelligent, with a droll sense of humor. AND, Dole didn't promise to balance his ticket, or at least probe the suitability thereof, by floating Stacy Abrams as his VP; he ran with Jack Kemp.
I didnt mean Biden the MAN = Dole the MAN! Dear God!
I meant the mistake of NOMINATING Dole to run against a political freak of nature is being repeated by the Dems.
As a psychiatrist, I detect early neurocognitive impairment. He stammers, and his prosody is frequently impaired. Predict he wont be nominated.
