Washington attorney Joe diGenova claimed in an interview last night that the Department of Justice inspector general has determined that "the final three FISA extensions were illegally obtained," and the first one is still being investigated.
For the past year, DOJ IG Michael Horowitz has been investigating the FBI's 2016 surveillance activities and his report is expected later this month or in early June.
Washington power couple Joe diGenova and Victoria Toensing appeared on Lou Dobbs' Fox Business Network show Thursday night to talk about the latest turns in the "SpyGate" saga.
"The only question now is whether or not the first FISA was illegally obtained," diGenova said.
He told Dobbs that the latest revelations in investigative reporter John Solomon's piece at The Hill, have prompted further investigation from Horowitz's team.
On Thursday, Solomon reported that newly unearthed memos show that a high-ranking government official from the Obama State Department met with former British spy Christopher Steele in October of 2016, and figured out pretty quickly that his dossier was a political hit job intended to slime Donald Trump on behalf of Hillary Clintons campaign.
The written account of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Kathleen Kavalecs Oct. 11, 2016, meeting with Steele also shows that Steele admitted that his research was "political and facing an Election Day deadline," according to Solomon.
DiGenova said the inspector general was unaware of the memos, which were obtained last week through open-records litigation by the conservative group Citizens United.
"The Bureau hid those memos from Horowitz. As a result of that, they are doing some additional work on the first FISA," diGenova explained, adding: "It may be that all four FISAs will have been obtained illegally."
DiGenova and Toensing shared another explosive revelation on Sebastian Gorkas Salem Radio talk show America First on Thursday.
According to Toensing, the FBI tried to frame former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos by having an informant give him $10,000 in cash during a trip to Israel in the summer of 2017.
An individual allegedly talked the then-29-year-old into traveling to Israel to make a deal, and invited him to his hotel room.
And there on the bed is $10,000 in cash in a suitcase, she continued. Papadopoulos took the money and gave it to his lawyer, who has it still.
Toensing said when Papadopoulos returned to the United States, he was greeted by FBI agents at Dulles Airport and they started searching through everything that he had the second he landed.
She added, in fact, they already had his baggage from the plane. He couldnt believe they had his baggage.
It was a set up! exclaimed Gorka.
It was a complete set up, agreed Toensing.
DiGenova explained that the Feds already knew that he hadnt declared that he had $10,000 and were expecting to find the undeclared cash so they could arrest him and put the thumbscrews on and make him squeal, as Gorka put it.
Worst of all, according to Toensing, one of the FBI agents said to him, this is what happens when you work for Donald Trump.'
Toensing represents an Obama era whistleblower. She has access to more information than you realize.
Proving once again that Washington is nothing more then a District of Corruption inhabited by some of the worst of this country.
Liz, your posts are so informative, and suggest you have a deep understanding of how deep and dangerous the DC Swamp is.
If Trump really did help in taking down the NYC mob, as some here on FR believe, it gives me hope he is also going after the evil snakes and gators in the Swamp.
But it does take time, and patience.
I know NOTHING about DC’s culture, and think you do, so REALLY appreciate your really inciteful posts!
The first sentence in the article implies that Joe diGenova has a source in the DOJ/IG. I hope this is true.
The words "illegally obtained" appear a couple of times. If true, then the IG report should include criminal referrals.
If the IG report does not contain criminal referrals, then the entire FISA abuse whitewash will be complete, and it will show that the deep state is still in control.
Bttt.

I hope you’re right, but it just seems too good to be true.
If they really did try to entrap him like that, it’s game over. The story is too easy to both explain and understand, and most voters will be appalled that the attempt was made at all. Like I said, game over.
Joe better start having some of his predictions come true, or else he will turn into Judge Nappy.....but I do love Joe!~
I’m not sure what you mean by “different”? Unrelated, maybe?
As for it only coming from Papadopoulos, not if she heard it from somebody who heard it from somebody else (and it was made up.)
That’s my concern. It just seems too good to be true, although I suppose the agency involved could argue that they were sure he was crooked and wanted to entrap him to be able to put the squeeze on him on the larger matter? Even given that, it will be a tough sell to the average voter.
Joe diGenova should stop leaking this stuff. Let the IG and AG do their jobs, followed by US Marshalls. We don’t need the “press” in on it.
Is Horowitz going to show himself to be part of the SWAMP....AGAIN?? Most likely.....pathetic.
Tenacity, inside knowledge, knowing that what you are looking for exists, and a judge willing to jail folks for contempt of court. And, the agency gets to pay the attorneys fees for the public interest law firm that had to sue to get the information.
Let’s not play this “speculation” game. B- or even C-level media people chiming in like it matters.
Even if true, nothing will happen to the perpetrators. Maybe if a republican was responsible, but we all know that the law doesn’t apply to the other side.
I agree.
“They [DiGenova & Toensing] make the point that the rot at the FBI is not confined to a few appointees at the top. A large number of lower-ranked officials were involved in these stings and associated frauds, and not a single one spoke up as a whistleblower.”

This has been and continues to be beyond disturbing. The comments concerning the “empty suit” Wray do not lead one to believe that the FBI is going to go through the necessary change/cleaning out at a fundamental level to ever gain a decent reputation back.
If what you say is true, then the concept of America is now an illusion. We can either accept that and live it, or change it.
Sorry, I shouldnt have personalized my comment.
SHB, she has access to more information than any of us realize.
Have a blessed day, FRiend.
I have to agree with you Ann. Horowitz’ last report was totally underwhelming and I suspect the same will be true of this one. In addition, I do love Joe and Victoria and try not to miss them when they’re on any show, however, Joe has made an awful lot of predictions that haven’t come true. Where’s the separate report on Comey he told us was coming?
Was this a "rank and file" guy?
Bkmk - push pull entrapment
Really wish Trump attorney would keep his mouth shut. Now someone could get to IG with bribe or threats to make sure first FISA was legit. Why announce before report?
