NASCAR will pause the Coca-Cola 600 in the middle of the race on Memorial Day weekend for a moment of remembrance.
Charlotte Motor Speedway officials requested that the series make the gesture, which it did in 2009 when the Sunday race was moved to Memorial Day due to rain.
People kept talking about that that was so impactful, Charlotte Motor Speedway general manager Greg Walter told NBC Sports.
So we asked can we do that again? Our sport is so prone to supporting the military and so prone to understanding what the Memorial Day is all about.
The 30-second break will take place at the completion of Stage 2 of the race, when the cars will park in pit lane and be joined by their crewmembers.

Wonderful!
Celebrate before, stopping a race for anything but a crash or weather is pure BS to bunch up the pack because if effects the outcome. That kind of thinking is why I don’t watch NASCAR any more.
On the left side of the top picture are condos at the speedway. They started at $80,000. People laughed at the idea when they first heard of it. Fast forward a few years where the condos were selling for four to five times that amount.
Thank You
Ping for the latest from the minds of NUTSCAR.
Oh yeah- We are back to Old School Q as of last week.
from what i understand, they aren’t stopping the race during the race but between stages when the cars are in the pits- it’s just 30 seconds extra-
Agreed. A moment of silence BEFORE the race would be nice. In the middle of it is tacky at best and maybe even unfair to the drivers. At worst, it could be dangerous.
Agreed. I used to follow it religiously from a kid in the late seventies up until just the very early two thousands and then around 2003 I just got tired of it. Haven’t regularly paid attention to it since.
Years ago one had to be in a Will of someone to get Tix to Bristol they can barely get 20-25% Sales nowadays.
The brainless ones at NUTSCAR need to stop changing the Rules every 2 hours for starters.
My 2 cents:
Agree with others this should be done before the race rather than during.
If these 2 cents are not needed, please contribute to the needy on the streets.
Ditto. I haven’t seen a race in years. My fiends who were ardent fans now occasionally watch races They tell me that on TV, wide crowd shots almost never happen as they do want to show the Forrest of empty seats at most every race.
Simple solution. All of the crap that they started doing that ran off the fans, stop doing it. Problem solved.
I meant to say “as they don’t want to show.” Sorry.
With today's humongous flat-screen TVs with surround sound and subwoofer, these kinds of events have never been more enjoyable to watch. I hope to be picking up a 55-60" flatscreen very soon.
Gud on them!
BINGO DINGO !!!!
Wife and I were on the NUTSCAR E-Mail Fan Council a couple years ago. We kept telling them OVER AND OVER to STOP the Hourly Rule changes, go back to the Old Format for Practice and Qualifying, AND QUIT CHANGING THE CAR BODY AND Run the Tapered Spacer and toss the Restrictor Plates in the scrap pile- Permanently!!!!
But do they listen to US ? NO !!!
Just forget that between the two of US Weve been watching and going to for Races since the 70s. I mean how dare We think that We know anything.
They just stopped send them.
We live in Mooresville surrounded by the Teams. We hardly ever go to Concord (Charlotte) anymore We just watchTV. More interested in the NHRA 4 Wides.
I stopped watching a while back.
Restrictor plates, giving the finger to cigarette sponsors(don’t smoke) and finally banning the Confederate battle Flag.
It can have the tampon sponsors on the girly boy sewing machines. Until it gets back to its roots, don’t care what happens to it.
The Stages are the dumbest thing ever.
Yeah i don’t like them either- I just want one entire race- Start to finish- no interruptions like stages-
Agreed. Makes sense to me.
FWIW, I've always liked watching various car sports events (Nascar, drag racing, monster truck competitions, etc), but never was so into any of them to be concerned much about the ins and outs of what was going on. I would just watch them as I came across them while flipping through the channels.
