A northern Kentucky teenager banned from school for refusing the chickenpox vaccination due to his religious beliefs has come down with the childhood malady, his attorney said Wednesday.
Jerome Kunkel, a student at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Assumption Academy, first started showing chickenpox symptoms last week and hopes to have recovered by next week, a lawyer for the 18-year-old told NBC News.
Kunkel and his family have no regrets about their decision to not be vaccinated.
"These are deeply held religious beliefs, they're sincerely held beliefs," family attorney Christopher Wiest said. "From their perspective, they always recognized they were running the risk of getting it, and they were OK with it."

I never want polio, pneumonia, and especially shingles.
_________________________________________________________
I had shingles at the waist. It sux, but polio and pneumonia are more likely to kill you. Shingles has a very low death rate.
I hope you are not serious.
Anti- vaxxers you will find are anti most anything. Known a few in my time and typically they are unhappy and argue for arguments sake. If you are for something they are against it. A miserable existence I must say
Weirdest thing tho, all the skin on the bottom of my hands pealed off...........You wouldn't think much about it but everything I touched was either super hot or super cold or painful since the outside layer of the skin cushions all those sensations...........
lifetime immunity until it returns as shingles decades later?
“Had chickenpox in 3rd grade...................1963...............”
Me too. And the measles and the mumps and..... Of course that was in the 50’s.
The virus can return as Shingles. And that’s worse than chicken pox.
It's here, but it has a sexy new name. Acute Flaccid Myelitis.
I think if you HAD chicken pox as a child, you are more apt to get shingles later in life. Is that correct?

You are now. Shingles was pretty rare until the chicken pox vaccine. The older population was constantly re-exposed to chicken pox through children, grandchildren, ect. It was like getting a chicken pox booster, and that kept shingles away.
We are just not exposed very much anymore, so now they had to come up with another vaccine, which is really just a chicken pox booster.
Serves the little bastard right.
He needs to be permanently enjoined from ever getting the shingles vaccine.
Ever hear of shingles?
Had shingles. A pain. You live through it.
Had shingles. Sucks. They had good meds for it. You live through it. Better than living in a nanny state.
Getting chicken pox is natural vaccination/immunization.
The only thing wrong with it is the Big-Bureaucrat/Big-Pharmaceutical criminal-complex doesn’t get to profit from it.
Chicken pox is good to get in childhood as it provides immunity for stuff later in life, as I understand it.”””
Chicken Pox virus is connected to SHINGLES.
Wait until he gets that!!!
I have heard that also and tend to agree with it.
The chicken pox vaccine was being field tested in the mid-80s so is fairly recent. I think the reason for the development of that vaccine was as a response to the emergence of Reyes syndrome, which early on was found to follow chicken pox, blamed on administration of aspirin.
So what? There must be others who refused to get vaccinated who haven't come down with it.
My guess is the parents intentionally exposed him to chickenpox to end the debate and not violate their religious beliefs. I disagree with them on vaccinations, but I approve of their seriousness about their religion.
