A northern Kentucky teenager banned from school for refusing the chickenpox vaccination due to his religious beliefs has come down with the childhood malady, his attorney said Wednesday.
Jerome Kunkel, a student at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Assumption Academy, first started showing chickenpox symptoms last week and hopes to have recovered by next week, a lawyer for the 18-year-old told NBC News.
Kunkel and his family have no regrets about their decision to not be vaccinated.
"These are deeply held religious beliefs, they're sincerely held beliefs," family attorney Christopher Wiest said. "From their perspective, they always recognized they were running the risk of getting it, and they were OK with it."

“These are deeply held religious beliefs...”
What religion is that?
Dont worry polio will come back, imported across the border.
So there will be serious things to worry about again soon enough.
As if the TB, measles, and hepatitis they bring is not enough.
Voodoo
Yep.
“Do you notice Freepers.
How are you are a demon cat masters”
What drug are you taking and where can I get some?
Church of Moron, apparently.
I got that one wrong. Thanks.
The constitutionality of compulsory vaccination has been upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court ever since Jacobson v. Massachusetts, 197 U.S. 11 (1905).
Very painful for some.
Got a little scar on my nose from chicken pox. I lived to talk about it - don’t need a vaccine to survive it.
Vaccine almost killed my son, by God’ s grace he is the only child ever cured of autism caused by MMR that we know of. The Dr’s wanted to do a study on him but were shut down by big pharma. He was also cured of a nut allergy that the doctors said they had never seen happen.
Vaccines aren’t the cure-all some of you think they are. Just like the Democrats that y’all rail on saying how un-scientific they are when it comes to climate change and gender dysphoria, ( I agree)
Y’all can be just as bad when it comes to vaccines. You think they’re safe in all cases and for all reasons and they are not.
Now he will have to consider the Shingles vaccine.
May I suggest you understand it a little better? Ever heard of shingles? That's just the first big bad risk a survivor of chicken pox runs. Nope, it's not fatal, but ask any person who has had it (mostly in the above 60 crowd), it will make you wish you were dead.
YOu should read up on this.
Shingles sounds like a horrible disease.
I made sure to get a shingles vaccination
and would recommend it to anyone past 55.
Heck, we had chickenpox parties. Better for everyone to get through it at once.
Those decisions have been overturned. The vaccination decisions have not.
Wanna try to defend THAT?
I'm "defending" nothing; I'm accurately reporting what the law is, as opposed to what I or others might wish it to be.
Why is keeping feebleminded from making more feebleminded kids a bad idea?
*segue*
Do you know why the world’s #1 importer of African slaves for many centuries doesn’t have a race problem today?
What say you Buck?
I had the chicken pox EVEN though I had been vaccinated-the irony. The poor soul will be miserable, but he will survive.
Had it at about age 5. I can still picture my mother slopping the Calamine lotion on my brother and I.
The one thing it does not give you any immunity to, if anything, is shingles. Shingles is the chickenpox virus revived in adulthood and having had chickenpox does not protect you. You have to be vaccinated for shingles just like chickenpox.
