House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said Tuesday that his panel is still planning to vote to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt to Congress, suggesting that a meeting held earlier between committee staff and the Justice Department did not bear fruit.
Nadler would not comment on the details of the negotiations with the Justice Department regarding the committees demands for special counsel Robert Muellers full report, but told reporters Tuesday evening the contempt vote was still scheduled.
The only thing Im going to say is at the moment, its still scheduled, Nadler told reporters when leaving Speaker Nancy Pelosis (D-Calif.) office Tuesday evening.
Its still possible that the committee and the Justice Department could reach an agreement before the contempt vote, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
A Justice Department spokesperson did not respond to a request for information about the meeting with committee staff Tuesday.
On Monday, Nadler announced the committee would vote Wednesday on a resolution recommending Barr be held in contempt after he did not meet the committees demands for the full, unredacted Mueller report and underlying evidence.
The Justice Department in a letter to Nadler Monday said it remained open to engaging with the committee to reach an accommodation that meets the legitimate interests of each of our coequal branches of government but expressed disappointment that Nadler had moved forward with the contempt process.
Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd also defended Barr as going to great lengths to accommodate members of Congress and urged Nadler to view the less-redacted version of the report the attorney general has made available to select lawmakers. Republicans have also sternly objected to Nadler for scheduling the contempt vote.
Nadler issued a subpoena for Muellers full report in April, one day after Barr released a public version that is redacted to conceal grand jury material, details that could compromise ongoing probes, classified material and details on peripheral third parties.
Barr has offered select members of Congress, including Nadler, the opportunity to review a less-redacted version of the report in a secure room on the condition they dont discuss its contents. He has thus far refused Democrats request to join them in petitioning a court for the release of grand jury material from the report.
Democrats have described Barrs accommodations as unacceptable and demanded the full report be made available to Congress. Nadler also wants access to the evidence Mueller collected, saying his committee is entitled to the materials as part of its oversight and investigative responsibilities.
Boyd wrote Nadler last week notifying him the department would not comply with the subpoena, describing it as overbroad and extraordinarily burdensome and posing a threat to ongoing law enforcement investigations.
Do it boy. Do it !!!!
If Nadler can get enough Dems to go along he can hold Barr in contempt of Congress.
Then he can send his referral for action on it to the DoJ.
And he can count on being caught up in the spell binding mystery. It will not be a pretty
Yep, Nadless ain’t gonna win this no matter how a vote turns out.
Insanity continues! They think that they will not get caught! Inside beltway thinking!!! The last laugh will be on them!
Barr should just say: “You’re right. I do hold Congress in contempt. Who wouldn’t?”
Tirebiter
Won’t someone please give him a wafer-thin mint!
He lap band snapped.
The House can have the sergeant at arms go to Barr’s house and bring him to the Capital jail. In addition they can impose daily fines.
However, Barr could argue with the court that he is being punished and forced to d something illegal without a signed order by a Judge to release the un-redacted report to all of Congress and their staff.
I honestly don’t know what protection or recourse Barr has other then a Judge or court releasing him to release what they request
The letter should have said it is illegal unless ordered by a Judge.
Jerry Nadler...cadaveri eccellenti.
Barr can also slam the door in their face.
The Obama administration and the entire MSM press has taught us that the Contempt charge means nothing.
Mueller was appointed special counsel by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein under Department of Justice [DOJ] regulations which also bind him as special counsel.
These DOJ regulations do not require or even permit a public report from Mueller.
Instead, they make it very difficult for any such findings to become public.
The DOJ regulations, specifically Section 600.8, require the special counsel to provide a CONFIDENTIAL report explaining the prosecution or declination decisions reached by the Special Counsel, [emphasis added] but only to the Attorney General.
Nader has had it out for Trump for decades. All it is, is personal vindictiveness.
Based on what?
When are the children going to quit playing in the crapped in cat box and start doing their jobs, such as helping to solve real problems or better yet....just keep their dirty little mouths shut.
Barr should tell Nadler that he is getting PO’ed and is going to double the number of agents investigating Russiagate and no one will get any leniency.
