Men Have No Friends and Women Bear the Burden
Harpers ^ | May 2, 2019 | Melanie Hamlett

Posted on 05/07/2019 10:58:25 AM PDT by Galatians328

Toxic masculinity—and the persistent idea that feelings are a "female thing"—has left a generation of straight men stranded on emotionally-stunted island, unable to forge intimate relationships with other men. It's women who are paying the price.

“...stranded on emotionally-stunted island,...”

Yup. This was written by a clueless broad, for sure.

Stranded??? Well, “Melanie” here’s some Man-splainin’ for you. Might be tough to comprehend, I know...

Us Toxic Males are NEVER “stranded”, “lost”, blah blah blah ... we’ll just cut down some trees, build a raft and watch for the right tide. With rocks, if we have to.

AFTER killing our own food, catching fish with improvised tools and weapons, making fire to keep warm and building a water distiller to make drinkable water.

You, “Melanie” and your liberal beta males... well, yeah. YOU’RE stranded. No Usable Skillsets. No worthwhile anything.

I think it’s a minority of men who are “toxic” with fear of any emotions or friendships, who treat women like props, other men only as artificial acquaintances. Very few.

Most men, when there is something to get emotional about, they do. When they are brought together by work or sport or kids’ schools, they are great friends with each other.

My team just made it past a do or die playoff hockey game last night, in overtime! You saw sweaty fatigued guys jumping on each other, hugging, faces together, in utter emotion (joy).

If a man lives his life, he is feeling and doing and befriending. Very few do not.

Women want to talk about their problems incessantly, in excruciatingly painstaking detail. If possible, they drag their friends into the problem, so that their friends can wallow in the misery as well. This article is Exhibit 'A'.

Men want to fix the problem and move on.

Complete and utter BS. All the guys I know play golf, watch sports, go to concerts and fish together. I go on two guys’ weekend golf outings with 2 different groups every year. Most of the guys I’ve known for 30years

Here’s a lesson I learned from experience, ie, my wife.

When women talk about their problems, they’re looking for someone to commiserate and sympathize with. They’re not interested in how you think they should fix it, ie, man ‘splaining.

Oh BS! My husband has many friends since grade school. Does he live in their back pockets, no. Do they all go to the bathroom together, no. Do they talk about their “feelings”, no.

They’re men, pure and simple.

I got as far as *straight men* and realized what a load of crap this is.

And it only went downhill from there.

Yep. Learned that early on with Mrs WBill. I'm lucky, in that she saves most of the drama for her female friends. Don't tell me there's an enormous problem that's making you miserable, without expecting me to do something about it.

Her: "(Female Friend) is really upset with her best friend. She (said/did) (this and that) and the two of them really had it out. They're not talking anymore."

Me: "Hunh. Probably a good thing. Sounds like the best friend is pretty toxic...."

Her: "No, it's TERRIBLE!!!! They've been friends for decades, and it's foolish to ruin a friendship over something so trivial."

Me: "Hunh. Well, they should get together and talk it out." (I thought that was pretty good insight)

Her: "NO!!! They can't do THAT! There will be a fight, and she'll (say/do something awful) and the other will (say/do something awful) and that will be awful!"

Me: "Well, then it's just as well they stay apart."

Her: "NO! It's TERRIBLE!! They've been friends for decades and"......

and so the circular argument goes.

I frequently post one of my favorite Bill Engvall routines:

I was at the gym the other day working out with my buddy. My buddy Joey.

And he goes “hey, man, I’m getting a divorce.”

I said “Wow, that sucks. Can you spot me?”

That was our whole conversation!

So then I go home to my wife, and I say “Hey, Joey is getting a divorce.”

She goes “Oh, my God! What happened?”

“I dunno.”

“What do you mean you don’t know? Is she cheating on him, is he cheating on her?”

“Again, I’m not holding anything back here, I don’t know!”

She goes “Bill, someone tells you they’re getting a divorce and you don’t ask any questions?”

And I go “Well, that’s because he didn’t ask me a question! He didn’t say ‘hey Bill, what do you think about me getting a divorce?’, he said, ‘I’m getting a divorce’, which said to me, ‘I require no further input on your part.’”

If he had said ‘What do you think about me getting a divorce?’, I’d have said, ‘Well, you’re gonna be dating again, so you should work on your abs’.

I like his take on this subject. The APA is definitely in need of medical treatment.

If a man has difficulties too big to handle...like violent actions..addictions of all types..ptsd from severe trauma...serious abuse of themselves and others...memory loss...narcolepsy...you get the picture...get.professional help...”man circles” are not built for that.
The author of the piece is very naive about men and human psychology...generalizing about specifics the way she does..she is described as a comedian...writer...and storyteller...yup...that is an apt description...magazine should be called HARPIES BIZARRE.
