A sudden drop in the economy will make reelection more difficult. A trade war will do that.
Farmers are facing a very hard year as it is, and many large companies are putting pressure to stop the rhetoric on tariffs.

An attack on Iran would be a disaster. Especially with an ally like Saudi Arabia. Much better to have no one, rather than go to war while relying upon them.
