House Judiciary Committee schedules vote to hold AG Barr in contempt
The Washington Times ^ | May 6, 2019 | Jeff Mordock

Posted on 05/06/2019 7:54:52 AM PDT by jazusamo

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler has scheduled a vote Wednesday to hold Attorney General William P. Barr in contempt of Congress after he refused to provide an unredacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report to Congress.

Mr. Nadler and Mr. Barr have been sparring over what the Justice Department will provide to Congress beyond the redacted report that was publicly released last month.

Mr. Barr missed a May 1 deadline for turning over the full report and all supporting evidence, and Mr. Nadler softened his demand to a less-redacted report and some of the supporting evidence Mr. Mueller amassed. That new deadline was Monday morning.

Should the committee approve the contempt citation it would then go to the full House floor for a vote.

“The attorney general’s failure to comply with our subpoena, after extensive accommodation efforts, leaves us no choice but to initiate contempt proceedings in order to enforce the subpoena and access the full, unredacted report,” Mr. Nadler said in a statement, adding he would postpone the hearing if the Department reverse course.

Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia, the top Republican on the committee, blasted Mr. Nadler, saying the subpoena requires the attorney general to release confidential grand jury information, which would violate federal law.

“They know the Justice Department is working to negotiate even as they pursue contempt charges making their move today illogical and disingenuous,” he said.

The markup, scheduled for 10 a.m., is the escalation of an ongoing battle between the Justice Department and the Judiciary Committee as tensions rise over Mr. Barr’s handling of the Mueller probe.

Mr. Barr last week skipped a scheduled appearance before the committee after Democrats demanded an extra session for staff attorneys to question the attorney general. The Justice Department called the move “unprecedented” and “Inappropriate.”

Exactly, and Nadless knows AG Barr is not about to break the law.

Can’t wait until Barr starts sending out indictments from the IG report. Hopefully Schiff will be on the list for leaking classified documents.

Then the rats will understand the meaning on unintended consequences.

Axios national political reporter Jonathan Swan has the reputation of being the objective person in the room when he’s on panels often dominated by open partisans and media folks pushing left-wing narratives. In an appearance during ABC’s This Week on Sunday, Swan popped a few liberal bubbles when it came to suggestions that President Trump’s tweets about former VP Joe Biden meant he was afraid. He also mocked the bluster of Congressional Democrats and their arbitrary deadlines.

Transcript -

SWAN: Let’s be honest. It’s farcical. How many deadlines has Jerry Nadler given? High-noon deadlines? “April 2, you must release the Mueller Report.” And then the Justice Department said, “Oh that’s really cute. We’re not going to do that.”
________________________________

Jonathan KARL(ABC): And the deadlines on his taxes.

SWAN: “Oh, Matt Whitaker, you must comply. No, actually we’ll back off.” “Bill Barr, you must testify!” And guess what. On Monday morning 9:00 a.m. the latest deadline—

KARL: Another deadline.

SWAN: “Pound sand” will be Bill Barr’s response to that. And they just keep doing it. Because here’s what the dirty secret is, they can hold him in contempt. It’s been done before. It matters nothing. It goes through the courts, it’s going to get dragged out. Bill Barr knows he has the power and he is telling them to go shove it.

CHRIS CHRISTIE: Jon, listen, when Mary turned the phrase of people being frustrated and furious, that reminded me of the last time we held an attorney general in contempt.

[Crosstalk]

The Republican Congress, held Eric Holder in contempt over Fast and Furious, and what happened? Nothing, because you know what happens? That gets referred to the Justice Department for prosecution. And Eric Holder went, “Meh, I don’t think I’ll prosecute myself.” Well, if you think Bill Barr’s going to have any different answer, you can forget it. That’s what’s going to happen.

The slow if no indictments by Barr just allows the communists Democrats to pull this kind of crap. Unfortunately this delay really upsets many of Trump's followers.

Maybe it's about time to announce when the report will be out. Exact date, not this sometime in whatever. That means never to me.

I believe the Democrats get 99% of the dead and imaginary person vote. It's a tough demographic to beat.

“Seems like it would be a crime for Nadler to solicit the AG to commit a crime..??..”

Yes. Nadler is the one who should be locked up. He is committing a crime, by making the demands.

Holder was GUILTY and got away with it. Barr is not guilty of anything, but he will not get “away” with it. Funny how our effed up government works
