California moves to keep Trump off 2020 primary ballot

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Legislature is trying again to force presidential candidates to publicly disclose their tax returns, hoping a new Democratic governor known for his clashes with President Donald Trump won’t block them this time.

The state Senate voted 27-10 on Thursday to require anyone appearing on the state’s presidential primary ballot to publicly release five years’ worth of income tax returns. The proposal is in response to Trump, who bucked 40 years of tradition by refusing to release his tax returns prior to his election in 2016.

California’s presidential primary is scheduled for March 3. If the bill becomes law, Trump could not appear on the state’s primary ballot without filing his tax returns with the California secretary of state.

It would be KARMA if the FEC bars states that set requirements beyond The Constitution from participation in Federal elections.

Then listen to the Libs/Dems whine and cry.

Putinesque. Ban him from the ballot.

They are trying to ensure that Trump does not get the popular vote so that the 12 or so states that use the popular vote to allocate electoral votes will all go to the Dem.

But if the Dem does win then it will delegitimize the President. Even if just one state bans Trump from the ballot that will mean that if Trump had been on the ballot that he might have won the popular vote and all 12 of those Blue States as well as the election.

I wonder if SCOTUS will even bother waiting for a challenge before issuing a slip opinion...

That would be the logical move. Better yet, call the California election results null and void for all federal offices.

These f##ks are playing with fire if they think to remove Trump from the electoral ballot. Their going to piss a lot of people off, and they may not like the consequences.

It would be cool if States that banned President Trump from the ballot, would be banned from Federal Elections....what with the Never Trumpers (never smelly Walmart shoppers and employees) being the politically Red (as in Welcome to the Soviet Union type Red).

No votes valid from Calif, etc.
Be a joy to watch Dems go more mentally ill than they already are.

Kevin-
Also, property taxes are really low...we paid $5,000/year for 2 acres in Big Bear Lake. We pay less than $1,000 for .67 acres. Income tax is only 4.63% flat rate and gas is about $1.00 less here

It is....A state CANNOT willfully or otherwise not put someone for a Federal office on the ballot as long as that person has met FEDERAL criteria for inclusion on that ballot.....PERIOD!

They’re worried Trump will win California

That's as likely to happen as me riding a unicycle while juggling flaming chainsaws.

Clearly unconstitutional, even anti-constitutional.

You might be right, but consider—California has had two US Senate elections in a row where no Republican appeared on the ballot. The rule is the top two finishers in the primary get on the ballot—no one else. Write-ins are not allowed.

It would be a bit less blatant if they made 5 years of tax returns for all public office, but I don’t see them in a rush to do that.

What’s good is we won’t have to count the electoral votes from all these blue states.

Actually this could be a huge win. I think a very good case could be made that by keeping the sitting POTUS off the ballot the EC votes from CA and the blue states who do this could be tossed. Which would make Trumps re-election much easier. It would be a true constitutional crises and unfortunately we cannot trust Roberts.

I am waaaayyyy more interested in the tax returns of politicians AFTER they leave office when they are miraculously making zillions from companies they steered government contracts to ... and we’re all supposed to look the other way and say, well, they all do it.

“No, this only involves the primary ballot. They want another (R) to win Cali’s primary.”

As a Conservative Californian, ask me if I care. Trump, or whomever isn’t going to win the General Election here. So this move simply allows Trump to ignore CA and not spend one thin dime here campaigning. And I understand that there are as many as 17 states that are going to try the same thing. I just imagine those states were RAT states anyway. But no matter. If there is not a contested Primary, those states should not be able to send a single vote to the EC. So ask me if I give a damn if the winning number in the EC is something less than 270. But I suspect that the SCOTUS will not be allowing them to play their game, because it has the effect of disenfranchising a substantial number of voters in these states.

Melodrama. First of all, these people made their own choice to come here ILLEGALY. Furthermore, families are separated every day when a member is put in jail, goes on a business trip, joins the military...
