BALTIMORE, Md. — A former Episcopal bishop who killed a cyclist in 2014 will be released from jail in May.

According to officials, Heather Cook will be released from jail and placed on probation until October 2022, meeting regularly with an agent and being supervised.

That means Cook will have served 3 1/2 years of her seven-year sentence after she was convicted of killing bicyclist Thomas Palermo on Dec. 27, 2014.

At the time, Cook was the second ranking official in the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland.

Cook pleaded guilty in September 2015 to auto manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, driving while texting and leaving the scene of an accident. She kept going and then returned to the scene more than a half hour later.

Sure thing: Bishop Heather Cook, Bishop Mickey Mouse and Bishop Fred Flintstone are real bishops.

Along with getting a special exemption to sin and be forgiven because he is clergy. A benefit that an average soul, like ours, don’t.

Killed someone while drunk driving AND texting, and left the scene of an accident, and only got 3 1/2 years?

I'm willing to bet there are people who have filled out environmental impact statements wrong, who served more time than that!

because he is clergy

It's a she, and she gets no special treatment from God due to her position.

I stand corrected. She doesn’t get special treatment because she’s not a man clergy in the Catholic Church.

They do not get special treatment either. They may get special treatment here on earth, but that is a human failing.

Yes they do. That is why they commit sexual misconduct.

Yes they do.

No they don't, not in the eyes of whom it matters most. Lots of people get away with things here on earth that they will have to reconcile when they depart this earth.

Just as there is a homosexual mafia that exists in the general population, one also exists within religious domains. Many religious leaders, just like political, business and other leaders, have caved to the demands of the homosexual mafia.

That “special treatment” was a long time ago; those days are over (where they get a pass). There’s a new sheriff in town, and he puts “religion” on no special place.

Is this resolution in any way unusual, or is it in line with current Maryland guidelines? The story doesn't give any indication that she got unusual treatment. Maryland's sentencing and time served guidelines may be too lax, but it's not clear that there was any preferential treatment involved here.

I expect she was quite well-behaved in prison and authorities took that into account. But that too would be a matter of applying the standard guidelines.
