The Motion Picture Association of America, the film industrys board of review, today recommended the re-examination of the British made film Oliver Twist with a view to having deletions and changes made which would remove objections to the firm voiced by many Jewish and other groups, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned today.
(snip)
In [the USA] the Anti-Defamation League of Bnai Brith and other Jewish groups protested the scheduled showing of the film on the grounds that one of its central characters, Fagin, was portrayed in an anti-Semitic manner and would inspire anti-Jewish sentiment.
In the British zone of Germany and other places where the film was shown public demonstrations were held in protest.
Recently, several groups in this country, including the New York Chapter of the American Council for Judaism, have called for lifting of the ban on Oliver Twist on the grounds that the prohibition violates the Bill of Rights.
Looked like him, but it was Ron Moody.
I assume you mean in the role of Fagin.
I didn’t see the photo but this is about the David Lean 1948-49 version called Oliver Twist. The Moody version was Oliver! around 1969 and Fagin was turned into a sweet old gentleman and played by a Jew. I don’t remember any complaints about that movie but I could be wrong.
Five minutes after I posted that I wondered if maybe I had my films mixed up.
Too much corn liquor on the porch this morning, I reckon.
Better watch that corn likker, son, or pass the jug to me.
—Your Maw
Like a hawk, maw.
We use Mason jars these days.
We use Mason jars these days.
Just tryna better myself.
Besides, we traded that old jug collection for a dang good
1979 Camaro with most of the engine parts and a couple of nice rims.
An’ it’s still up on blocks in the front yard! And ya took down my pink flamingos, ya nasty kid, ya.
Lawnmower got 'em.
Throwed shrapnel all onto my Camaro too.
Good!
Wasn’t any doing of mine.
They was drunk as Lords by the time they got the mower running.
And no, I wasn’t watching ‘em.
They ain’t my kids.
The Hebrew scriptures themselves have a lot of complaints about misbehaving Jews. Idols would get them in trouble posthaste, even worse than those idols would get pagans into trouble, because the pagans didn’t know better.
In literature, stereotypes these days are a no-no. So they want to rewrite Dickens, rewrite Shakespeare and Marlowe. They want to rewrite history itself, tearing down statues that offend the current sensibilities. To jump up and down condemning Robert E. Lee as a traitor. Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson declined to hang him for treason. But the snowflakes want to dig him up and try him 160 years later, as if nobody ever noticed his role as a leader of the insurrection until they came along. This is a burning issue now? Will the leaders of a California secession movement be hung, then? Or just hang ten?
