When Eduardo Bacardi describes the rum company he works for by saying, Therere people who love it for so many different reasons; Some love the label or the history or the liquid or they know someone in the family, hes not talking about the rum you might expect. Though his name suggests a close association with the maker of the planets best-selling rum, he actually holds a top managerial position at a long-time Casa Bacardi competitor.
Rather than contributing his labor to the worlds largest family-owned spirits company, of which hes the sixth generation of approximately 600 living family members, Bacardi serves as sales and marketing director for a relatively small-batch 139-year-old distillery just seven miles away from his birthright outside of San Juan, Puerto Rico -- a cherished brand about which all but a few spirits connoisseurs have ever heard: Ron del Barrilito.

Yes, the French Caribbean rhum agricole has a much different flavor profile than the molasses-based version. Clement and Barbancourt are both excellent examples.

Appleton XII is mighty fine. So is Mt. Gay.
Bacardi is low grade swill.

One of my faves is Arundel Cane Rum made by the Callwood family in Cane Garden Bay, Tortola, BVI. 10 years old, made in Really small batches. I have never found it anywhere but on the island. Hmmm... That give me an 💡.

The Rum I like is Ole Nassau Jack Malantan dark rum. You can only get it in the islands. It has been around since 1729.

BINGO!
Best rum ever.
I spent a week in the house across the street at the Cane Garden bay beach house next to the Wedding bar.
All the best Rums are made from cane juice. There used to be a brand you could buy here in NH called 10 Cane Rum.
I would buy it, open the bottle, drop in a nutmeg nut and a twist of cinnamon. Give it a couple weeks and you have spiced can rum.

Barbancourt = the only good thing to come from Haiti.
