Former State Department Official Spied for China Since 2007

China's Ministry of State Security successfully obtained State Department internal documents from an embassy office manager who was paid in cash and gifts, according to court documents in the case of Candace Claiborne, a spy for China since 2007.

Claiborne, 62, a former State Department office manager posted to both Beijing and Shanghai, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a single conspiracy charge of defrauding the government by lying to federal agents about extensive contacts with two MSS intelligence officers.

"Candace Marie Claiborne traded her integrity and non-public information of the United States government in exchange for cash and other gifts from foreign agents she knew worked for the Chinese intelligence service," said Assistant Attorney General John C. Demers. "She withheld information and lied repeatedly about these contacts."

The government did not charge Claiborne with espionage and she had claimed in interviews with the FBI that she only passed unclassified State Department information to the MSS.

“... if she’s dead you’ll never know the extent of the loss ...”
OK, enhanced interrogation for 1 year, then hang the traitor with a new rope.

Well, that’s nice. I guess spying is just not that big of a deal anymore.

In the case of Feinstein, what more do we need before we convict and execute her? And her Chinese handler/driver? And Bradley Manning? John Kerry?

Nothing in the plea agreement that I saw said anything about surrendering her goverent pension.

I understand the value to the government to getting to the bottom of the spying my be worth more than putting her on the end of a rope, but I’d hope there is something stutorially that prevents a person convicted of a federal crime this significant, while in federal service and in a position of significant national trust, to prevent them from receiving a pension benefit.

(Shrug). She fed non-defense and non-intel-related info to Chinese field agents. This is small change. What would be nice is if we could find out who betrayed our Chinese assets to Chinese counter-intel, if it was indeed a mole here who betrayed them rather than lousy computer network security. That mole I’d like to introduce to Old Sparky.

Joe McCarthy was just some 65 years ahead of his time.

And he was right even back then.

In what has become one of the great calumnies of history, his name is associated with bizarre and unreasonable sounding accusations, and is hurled like an epithet by people ignorant of the circumstances of the time.

Turns out, the assertions made by Senator McCarthy were neither bizarre nor unreasonable. Every one of his numbers he presented turned out to be pretty close to the mark, but still nothing was done about most of the moles.

It’s not that significant. She fed them low grade crap - non-defense non-intel-related stuff. The Rosenbergs gave the Russians blueprints for the A-bomb. Now that was worth firing up Old Sparky several times over.

I am impressed that they caught her, though. I was starting to get the impression that our counter-intel efforts consist of spying on GOP presidential candidates.

From the article:

[The statement did not say how the FBI first learned of Claiborne’s spying activities.

However, the FBI confirmed the activities using an undercover agent who posed as an MSS officer in January 2017. She was arrested two months later.]

I have no idea since I don’t know the details!
I do know that unraveling what’s lost is not simple and finding out who else might be involved is a slow investigative process. If you execute the spy, your primary witness into what’s been given up & who else might be involved as unreliable as he/she may be is now gone. I am saying this not because I feel any sympathy for the spy. Its not the movies, its not TV, where everything has to be settled and tied up into a nice neat package in an hour or 90 minutes (Are movies still 90 minutes?) Its just not a simple thing to get to the bottom of and do it right.

When are these traitors going to pay the price??

Let’s not forget Diane Fineswine and her Chinese spy she had for some 20 years too. And hellary’s right hand girl Huma Abedin is thought to be an Iranian spy as well.

Isn’t the ‘war on terror’ still on?

I’d rather see them executed. Look at Bradley Manning, eventually released from prison and any accountability of his treason by traitor Obama. Had Manning been executed, this would not have occurred.
