New Jersey Gov. Philip D. Murphy is proposing a plan to punish law-abiding gun owners by making it extremely expensive to own a gun.
The New York Times reports:
Though New Jersey has strict gun control laws, its firearms fees have not changed since the mid-1960s, making it a bargain for gun owners. A firearm identification card costs $5, while a permit to own a firearm is $2. A permit to carry a gun costs $20.
Mr. Murphy, a Democrat, has proposed fees that would be among the highest in the country. An identification card would cost $100, an owner’s permit would be $50 and a carry permit $400.
Besides raising fees on gun ownership, Mr. Murphy is also seeking an ammunition excise tax of 10 percent and a firearms excise tax of 2.5 percent. His proposals are part of the state budget, which the Legislature must pass by June 30.

NJ ammo dealers will take a hit as ammo will be purchased out of state. More liberals ruining a state. No reason to live there.

Perhaps I mix apples and oranges, but they got rid of poll taxes a long time ago. If I understand that issue, the “hope” was that white people could afford to pay a poll tax and could vote freely. Blacks would have more trouble paying a poll tax and would vote less. The poll tax was a way to infringe the right of Blacks to vote.
Taxes on firearms are no different. This is infringement in my book and I wish the Supreme Court would see it so. No one would be infringed by $5 or $2 charges. But push these things up and up and up and it’s not about the revenue — it’s just gun control and a violation of the Second Amendment.
So if I have to have a permit to own a gun, what permits do I need to:
- read a book
- own a bible
- prevent soldiers in my house
- force police to obtain a warrant
- limit double jeopardy
- prevent property seizure
- have a speedy trial
- protection from excessive bail and fines
- for a jury trial
etc
I assume that the also favors a poll tax.

Please ‘splain to me how this is going to deter a criminal hell bent on committing a crime with a firearm.

Poll taxes were found unconstitutional and this should be, too.

Hopefully the 3rd circuit which has recently flipped thanks to Trump will recognize that and start putting the kibosh on this clown in lieu of governor.

Firearms bans & confiscation have nothing to do with public safety. The Regressive Socialists ‘RATS want to turn all law abiding American citizens into sheep so that we’re easier to dominate and terrorize. The #2A has nothing to do with hunting or shooting sports — it’s about the people’s right to guard against and defeat enemies foreign *and* domestic.

Someone needs to show us what happens after New Jersey drops below a sustainable level of citizens. With their loony budgets, and astronomical property taxes, how will it end up? Will it end up being a partitioned place with the crap living along the Hudson and the super wealthy living “up state?” Or will the increasing taxes drive the wealthy completely out of the state?
I guess filthy leftists care not that this is congruent with poll taxing mentality.
Charging fees for gun privileges is no different than a poll tax. ILLEGAL !!!
Its source is a Quinnipiac University poll... from February 20, 2018. Not even a full week after Parkland and in the midst of that media drumbeat for gun control after it. They're still citing that here in April 2019.
NY and other states have already raised the prices high, but noone has taken them to the supreme court- NJ will likely get away with it- unfortunately- I woudl think the National rifle association would have brought NY’s and other states high priced permits cases to supreme court by nowe- but they haven’t for some reason as far as i know
