Unfortunately, the Dad is a deadbeat who blew a substantial inheritance on every get-rich-quick scheme he could find.

Daughter divorced and had to pay him alimony so she could get uncontested custody of grandson. She has a great income from her work which her ex managed to blow her savings on his schemes before she divorced him.

Scout troop has a group of good men in it so he has male role models whom my daughter thoroughly vetted with a PI firm. And the men of the troop show her the respect she never got from her ex which has made an impression on her son as her ex continues to bad mouth her when grandson spends time with him.

She is also qualified in self defense (physical and pistol) and has a Concealed Carry permit. Which I insisted she have.

Veteran scouters have heard for years that the BSA perversion files were started in the 1930s.

In this 1990 biography of the founder of the world-wide scouting movement, Lord Robert S.S. Baden-Powell, it was mentioned that in 1 of the first Wood Badge courses (advanced training for leaders) held at Gilwell during the early 1920s, a staff trainer was evicted for child molestation during the event.

I agree this has been since the gays came out wanting more than to keep govt out of their bedrooms. On camping trips (60s) we always had 2-3 dads for 15-20 boys weekends and summer camp.

You had a fortunate troop. It was not uncommon for troops to go weekend camping, or to week-long summer camp, with just 1 adult volunteer.

Indeed, the leader was from our church and his son (older son 30ish) was groomed to take over, my dad and two other dads were always on the camp-outs, my dad went once for summer camp. When I think how important my summer vacation is I really appreciate their sacrifice now more than ever. My brother made it to Eagle.

In any large-number abuse scandal, I suspect that there are a LOT of false claims made in order to hitch onto the gravy train. Probably at least 1/3 of these are false, this being such a big number. I mean, how in the world are they proven, especially after a long period of time has passed?
