Kate Smith’s ‘God Bless America’ out at Yankee Stadium over racist songs
NY Post ^ | 4/18/19

The Yankees have decided to no longer run Kate Smith’s version of “God Bless America” during their seventh-inning stretch because of Smith’s affiliation with songs that carried racist lyrics. Most famously, Smith sang a 1931 song, “That’s Why Darkies Were Born,” which opened: “Someone had to pick the cotton, Someone had to pick the corn, Someone had to slave and be able to sing, That’s why darkies were born.” The song, which has been called a satirical take on racism, was a big hit for Smith, and also was recorded by Paul Robeson. When the Yankees last month became aware of Smith’s history, they switched to a keyboard version of “God Bless America.” The Yankees have played the song in the middle of every game since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks at the insistence of late owner George Steinbrenner. In 2009, the Yankees cut ties with singer Ronan Tynan, who had made numerous appearances at the Stadium to sing “God Bless America,” after he was alleged to have made anti-Semitic comments.

Side note: Fighter ace Lt.Col Gregory “Pappy” Boyington had a unique introduction to the song. The song became a traditional opener during WWII for sporting events. Having been either in the pacific theater as a fighter pilot or a POW he had never heard it.
Skip to 1946. Boyington, having been released after the war returns to America and attends his first baseball game since before the war. Not knowing the song or its significance he doesn’t sing along. Members of the crowd notice this and threaten to beat him up for being “unpatriotic”.
Poor Pappy just could not catch a break.

Upon receiving his Stalin Peace Prize in 1952, Paul Robeson had this to say: “We know how Truman betrayed the American people in their hopes for peace, how he betrayed the Negro people in their thirst for equal rights, how he tore up the Bill of Rights and subjected the whole American people to a reign of FBI-terrorization (sic).”

"The song, which has been called a satirical take on racism, was a big hit for Smith, and also was recorded by Paul Robeson. "

So the New York liberalscenti think Paul Robeson sang a racist song? That Robeson was racist?

I heard of the Peekskill Riot. It happened at a park near where the Beach Shopping Center was built around 12 years where my aunt and uncle had a housewares store.

If the Communist Party Line had shifted so as to support segregation, Robeson would have raced to the studio to record songs praising Jim Crow.
The commies were segregationists at one time. I was a member of the Mailhandler's Union. To make a long story short this union has it's roots in what was called The Alliance, a union of Black RR mail clerks and baggage handlers that formed around 1913. The reasons they organized was not only top protect themselves from the eeevil Vanderbilts and other RR barons of the day but also because the White socialists at the forefront of the labor movement wanted nothing to do with them. They were every bit as racist and violent as the klan. It wasn't until decades later when they realized the untapped propaganda value of exploiting the, as it was called then, "Plight of the Negro".

I’ll blast that song out of my car when I drive through Philly now, just because it pisses off some liberal d*cikwads.

Plus, it’s the Philadelphia Flyers Stanley Cup anthem... (yeah, we actually DID win two of those, once upon a time...)

#16. Robeson left his honest “patriotism” behind when he secretly joined the Communist Party USA knowing full well that it was an arm of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and run, in part, by the NKVD (the predecessor to the more modern KGB).

His role as a performer was to use his great musical skills to fight racism as part of the Party’s national strategy in order to recruit more black members (blacks were by and large not interested in the CPUSA, esp. after later CPUSA member W.E.B. DuBois warned them not to become “cannonfodder” in the streets for the Party (Found in his FBI on-line records).

There is no doubt that he was very offended by white racism and wanted better for ‘his people’, but he had a choice in which way to go, and the went Left and pro-Soviet Union, thus serving a foreign power as its propaganda voice (much like Tlaib and Omar are doing today).

For a Robeson-Obama connection, Robeson and fellow CPUSA covert leader/Soviet operative Harry Bridges (ILWU - Longshoremen’s Union) were the ones who chose Frank Marshall Davis to go to Hawaii in the late 40’s or very early 50’s to sure up the CPUSA’s propaganda operations there through a Party front paper, the Honolulu Record (Full hearings on Hawaii and the CPUSA can be found in the Sen. Internal Security Subcom. hearings, Sen. Jud. Com, entitled “Scope of Soviet Activity in the United States” - 84th Congress, Parts 40 - 41, 41A (I-III) and House Comm. on Un-American Activities hearings on “Communist Activities in the Territory of Hawaii”, I-III, IV, 1950/51 incl. the Testimony of Jack KAWANO”; House Report No. 2986, “Hawaii Civil Liberties Committee - A Communist Front”, 1950; ETC.

Robeson was identified as a covert CPUSA member by several former communists including Manning Johnson, HCUA, “Hearings regarding Communist infiltration of minority groups (Part II), testimony of Manning Johnson”, July 14, 1949 (way before Sen. McCarthy arrived on the scene.

You have got to know American history in some depth in order to understand how the Communists have subverted so much of it, including what is in or not in textbooks, what talking leftist/liberal “heads” spout off as the “truth” and is not, and how to put people and events into their proper context.

Liberals have no sense of humor or irony and thus are unable to recognize satire. Pretty pathetic really. It would be sad except for the fact that they are extremely dangerous.
