Amazon and Walmart on Thursday kicked off a two-year government pilot program allowing low-income shoppers on government food assistance in New York to shop and pay for their groceries online for the first time. ShopRite will join the two retailers on the program early next week, said the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which oversees the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. The USDA has long required customers using electronic benefits transfer, or EBT, pay for their purchases at the actual time and place of sale. So the move marks the first time SNAP customers can pay for their groceries online. ShopRite and Amazon are providing the service to the New York City area, and Walmart is providing the service online in upstate New York locations. The agency said the pilot will eventually expand to other areas of New York as well as Alabama, Iowa, Maryland, Nebraska, New Jersey, Oregon and Washington. The pilot program will test both online ordering and payment.

Part of the reason environmental regs cripple industries, is that regulaters think the ability to detect ever-smaller amounts of something somehow equates to the ability to remove it to ever-smaller amounts.
I’d guess there is a pricing graph that would chart the point where willingness to pay for a commodity intersects with the cost of producing it. And if that cost shoots up because of heightened effort to perfect the product, fewer people will buy it.
Waddling that 50 feet from the handicap parking to the electric cart is usually the only exercise some of those cows get.
Chef Gordon Ramsay gets chicken served to him under-cooked in seemingly every eatery he visits. I imagine the rest of us do, too.
Good. Maybe if on-line shopping competition helps drain some profit from the SNAP business Kroger and Walmart will quit lobbying so heavily for me handouts.
You may be assuming the ID is valid, the recipient is only registered in one county, and/or the SKU on the purchased item corresponds to the list of allowed purchases (valid SKU).
There are a lot of ways to skin the USDA’s cat.
I guess there isn’t enough fraud in the Food Stamp program already.
Take the food, cook it, and resell in the pushcart or roach coach. Skin the USDA cat.
If they were that willing to work, they wouldn’t be on SNAP.
Free delivery too? Id like to know. Im paying for it.
Food stamps are the modern equivalent of depression era soup lines.
On cooking shows, why is it a chef must never serve chicken pink, but duck must be raw red in the center?
Duck is never contaminated with listeria, salmonella, E.coli? Never?
Duck is technically considered a “red meat”. Chicken is not. There are no guarantees in life, but duck can generally be safely consumed while juicy and cooked to about 140 degrees. If caution is important (pregnant women, etc.) you can play it safe by cooking to 170 but it won’t be as tasty.
Spot on welfare isn’t a safety net it’s a way of life for the lazy.
Except for those who can’t work
A different bent on an old joke!
A Russian arrives in New York City as a new immigrant to the United States . It’s 11:00 AM on a Wednesday.
He stops the first person he sees walking down the street and says, “Thank you Mr. American for letting me come into this country, giving me housing, food stamps, free medical care, and a free education!”
The passerby says, “You are mistaken, I am a Mexican.”
The man goes on and encounters another passerby. “Thank you for having such a beautiful country here in America .”
The person says, “I not American, I’m Vietnamese.”
The new arrival walks farther. The next person he sees he stops, shakes his hand, and says, “Thank you for this wonderful America !
That person puts up his hand and shouts,”I am from the Middle East. I am not American!”
He finally sees a nice lady and asks, “Are you an American?”
She says, “No, I am from Africa ..”
Puzzled, he asks her, “Where are all the Americans?”
The African lady checks her watch and says: “Probably at work.”
Several years ago it was guesstimated one in 8-10 people was an illegal. I’d imagine it is worse today.

We knew that it was bad in California the border states.
When we visited relatives and friends in the midwest, southwest and east coast. Many of the workers we came across in normal actions like having lunch, were Hispanic or some language we didn’t recognize.
That happened 2-3 decades ago. According to our relatives and friends in those areas, illegals are on the increase.
See post 8.
If it ever comes to pass, the progression will be:
1) Those delivering the food will be waylaid by “those in more need”.
2) Stores will quit delivering.
3) Said stores will be declared “racist!”.
4) Stores will be subsidized to atone for that “outrage”.
Yes, they are from a different source, but my point is, imagine what kind of economy people would think we were in if people had to wait in line for every “welfare/snap/etc” benefit as they used it. It would look a LOT worse than what we had in the depression, regardless of who is supplying the service.
