Republicans in Washington are dead set against Judge Roy Moore being the party’s Senate nominee in Alabama next year and say they will do whatever is possible to prevent that from happening.

Moore is expected to announce a decision soon on whether to challenge Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.), a top Republican target, and a new poll shows him leading a field of possible GOP Senate candidates.

And yet, a poll shows his support to be almost the aggregate of the two other ‘top” GOP contenders....who would be the actual spoiler in such a election?

“Mitch McConnell and the Chamber of Crony Capitalists picking our US Senators guarantees the MAGA agenda is never implemented. “Is that what you really want?””

No, but Alabama voters have got to start acting like adults, and the same is true for Utah. Both Moore and Romney have been put forward by religious zealots, and unfortunately, Romney has managed to get himself elected. People who put their religious beliefs ahead of their country’s best interests, should not hold public office. Goes for Muslims, Catholics, Jews, you name it, too!

“What makes it even more disgusting are the parents of these children looking to set their daughters up into an “arrangement” that benefits the CHILD as no longer a burden on the family but another adult who can have his way with her as he sees fit. During the 30s, 40s, 50s and even before these most certainly led to mental and physically abusive “arrangements.”

And here these same people who did/do these things to their daughters decry what Muslims do to theirs. Christianity has its dark secrets too, and treating women ( in this case young girls) like chattel is a biggy. My sister stayed “faithful” to our Mormon upbringing and married a self-serving a$$hole who didn’t even shed a tear at her funeral. Then he proceeded in short order to marry another “Mormon widow” with 8 children of her own. He won’t speak to me because our mother had died just before my sister, and as executor our mother’s estate, I didn’t give him a f*cking dime, because under the terms of the will, I didn’t have to.

Why can’t people stop this fool?

He gave us a black eye before. The GOP would be foolish to let him do it again.

No, but it certainly does occur to me that too many people in Alabama consider Roy Moore a creep. Running him against Doug Moore is a risk with few rewards. There are other viable conservatives without Roy Moore’s past. Mo Brooks for one. Roy Moore is a man past his ‘best if used by date’.

This mostly isn’t about Roy Moore. He wasn’t the greatest candidate but in a body that includes Mad Maxine Waters and Alcee Hastings he would be a shining star. It’s about our right to elect candidates in the primary without an GOP establishment veto threat hanging over the vote.

The bottom line here is the GOP prefers progressive Democrats like Doug Jones to it’s own base voters. Weak corportist GOP candidates like the appointed lady in Mississippi are never undermined and campaigned against like Roy Moore was. Ask yourself why that is. This battle is about way more than Roy Moore.

You and I think...differently.Your thinking is backward. He was defending rights; the federal government is taking them away. The correct comparison would be the government outlawing guns and Moore refusing to comply. And stereotypes about people from Alabama really add nothing to the conversation. Just out of curiosity, where are from?

Interesting. Thanks for the link.

The motion covers all defendants, but is in a form that could let Moore take it back to court.

So the lawsuit was dismissed "without prejudice". Roy can bring it back around if needs be. My guess is the legal expense outweighed the probability of substantial benefit. As a judge, he would know. But I expect he'll have to say so during the primary campaign.

As a judge, he would know.

As a lawyer he could have handled it himself.

“Your thinking is backward. He was defending rights; the federal government is taking them away”

There was a lawful way to do that. He was removed from the judiciary both times because he just decided “he was right to do what he did, and he did it!” So essentially, he became an anarchist, and the law removed him. As far as my remarks about Alabamians is concerned, I was merely pointing out what people will say if you move forward with Moore as your candidate. I am a conservative Californian who was born here (in San Francisco) 79 years ago and cannot believe what the RATs have done to my state. I sit here and read the hateful things that FReepers say about CA on a daily basis. They are far worse that calling Alabamians rednecks who live in double wides who have to walk to the bathroom. Actually, Red States like Alabama are possibly the salvation of our country, but not if they choose their candidates unwisely and allow the RATs to take over as they have already done here. At present, you still have a choice that’s no longer available to me. You should choose wisely. If you do, I will thank you profusely for doing so.

Certainly, but then folks would decry that "only a fool represents himself". Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Either way we still cannot speculate as to the cost in time and other non-monetary resources. Nor can we speculate as to the probability of a successful result to the suit. I'm certain he weighed the pros and cons and did what was best for him. Why wouldn't he? Do you think withdrawing the lawsuit makes him guilty of the accusations, or that the perpetrators of those accusations are innocent? Definitively not so.

I think it means he filed suit for political purposes, and once that was over the reason for the suits was over as well.

And that is possible. I suspect that inquiry will be made during the primary season too. Still, it changes not one thing. If the Alabamians choose him in the primary, he'll make a fine Senator and reliable conservative vote. Only the democrats and GOP-E will work against him rising to the seat. Alabama gets to choose. And if they choose Moore, even if only as payback for the Kavanaugh'ing he received, I'll whole-heartedly support their decision.

Which worked last time. I have to believe that there is a far better candidate somewhere in Alabama who is also a solid conservative but who is not a crackpot.

And if there is not such a one willing to run? Or if the Alabamians *choose* Moore over the other candidates? What then? We have Never-Trumpers and Never-Moores are no better than they.
