Nevada could joins 14 other states and Washington, D.C. to award its electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote during a presidential election. The Assembly passed AB186 in a narrow vote of 23-17.
"I think it's going to increase voter participation," Assem. Tyrone Thompson, D-North Las Vegas said. "This is where we would know that people really will fell like that vote counts even more. It's just that more reason to go to the polls and to make sure that your voice is your vote."
Nevada has six electoral votes, which go to the candidate who gets the most votes in our state. If the bill passes the Senate and gets Governor Sisolak's signature, the votes would go to the candidate who got the most votes, nationally. Some say a popular vote would give states with larger populations more control, and candidates would ignore smaller states like Nevada.
"If we go to a national popular vote, why would they even bother coming here? Our constitution says we're a republic, not a democracy," Assem. Jim Wheeler, R-Minden said. "I voted 'No' on the national popular vote because I don't want Nevada to be a flyover state."

189 EVs have enacted.
146 EVs have legislation although perhaps 36 have shots at passing
VA has a legislature election this November and the Democrats are expected to take both houses. So VA might move to implement this adding another 13 EVs.
She won the election by 2.87m.
That means that the other 3103 counties in the US went for Trump by a million votes.
The Left wants to end the Electoral College, while claiming that a few cities won't decide election outcomes... when the most recent election directly contradicts their position.
It's 3103 vs 10. Which is more representative of America?
(Overall, it was 2626 to 487 in counties... about 5.5 to 1)
This is what happens when we allow our schools to teach less and less about history and American civics. To graduate high school, a kid should have to be able to write down the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights perfectly from memory, and swear on oath to protect and defend them.
Why wouldn’t legal voters in these states be able to sue these governments for disenfranchising their vote?
Having my vote in a deciding pool of 130 million votes somehow means more than when it is in a pool of 2 million votes? No, it's actually the exact opposite, Mr Thompson.
Does any Democrat actually comprehend their own words, or is it just to hear themselves lying all the time?
‘I am going to so LOVE when in 2020 these states, who will likely go D in their popular votes, will then have to have the EC votes for TRUMP..’
you are aware, I’m sure, that this will not take effect without the 270 EV threshold being reached...which will not be reached by 2020, thus no Trump involvement...
You are correct, of course,
However, IMO, there is a second threat in play that may offer better odds than getting the popular vote scheme past the USSC.
The popular vote at the local level is currently doing very well in facilitating our nation's swerve to the left. See tagline.
Have we allowed the wrong folks to teach our children K through post-grad?
The lawsuits that they will then launch to try to STOP them from following their own passed laws, by the same folks who passed and pushed for them will be delicious to watch.
They seem to labor under the idea that Trump would have never won except for the Electoral College, which of course is simply following the rules. Had the rule been “national popular vote” he would have campaigned differently. Since Hilary was too entitled to have to campaign, she might have lost anyway.
1. How many DISTRICTS did Hillary and Trump each win? We love touting the number of counties, but that's not how America votes. We vote by DISTRICT.
(The proper rebuttal to the National Vote Compact is to note that our votes count more in SMALLER voting pools, not larger, and so maybe states should assign EVs per district.)
2. What was the average population density of the counties or districts that Hillary won, and that Trump won? Those numbers must be incredibly different.
‘Yes, I think this could turn out to burn the Democrats when Trump wins the popular vote and then gets, by Democrat-inspired laws, almost or even all of the electoral college vote.’
no, it will not burn anybody in 2020 for Trump’s campaign, because these ‘Dem inspired laws’are not in effect minus the 270 EV threshold, which won’t be reached without red state involvement...
Cant wait until President Trump wins the popular vote and they burn this idea down.
No doubt he will win the legal popular vote. But this legislation is going to encourage massive ballot box stuffing in states where it can be gotten away with. (CA, NY, MD, NJ)
All it will take is liberal-controlled states to churn out the necessary votes. Think Philly (110% turnout in 2008) on a much larger scale.
Because the compact only goes into effect when they reach enough states for 270 electoral votes, the SCOTUS cant do anything about this right now. No one can because the law is not in effect.
If it ever does reach 270, we may descend into civil war. Itll be a total chaos.
We could be heading for a Constitutional Crisis, but according to Article II of The Constitution, each state may award it's electoral votes as the State legislature sees fit, they don't even have to let citizens vote, or abide by that vote.
"Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress"
So far, the states that have adopted this strategy are crooked socialist dem strongholds who would vote dem anyway.
Two Americas
Why bother voting if the big cities will do it for you?
The 15 NPV states: HI, CA, WA, NM, CO, IL, MD, DC, NY, NJ, DE, CT, RI, MA, VT
The 15 Art V states: AK, AZ, UT, ND, OK, TX, MO, AR, LA, IN, TN, MS, AL, GA, FL
Zero overlap.
A Republican will never win the popular vote again because the blue states and sanctuary cities let even illegals vote. Then they stuff the ballot boxes on top of that. And the GOP obviously does not care.
Thats why Dems want the popular vote to elect the president. They know it will be forever Democrat rule.
Theres no way hell win the popular vote!! Just no freakin way...too much fraud! Can the RNC take it to the SC or others states sue those states?
