The thing is, once you lay out this whole story, around two-thirds of people (doesn’t matter if you are Democrat or Republican) think that Huffman and her crowd ought to do real prison time (suggesting a minimum of one year in prison at the least). I don’t even think this is a right-versus-left issue any longer. Most people just think there was some serious ethical things violated.

Punishment is required. However, I’d rather they put assaulters and murderers in prison and that the rest make appropriate restitution. Huffman, et al, should have to pay for those who were qualified but unable to get in because the slots were filled by the fraudsters’ offspring. At least some good could come of their elitism.
What is happening to those who took the bribes? I’m not hearing much about them. No names or shame for them, it would seem so far.

Sign onto any county court system and peruse how any case proceeds. You will see most charges dismissed and a misdemeanor substituted for an original felony. A plea or a pretrial diversion takes place. It’s SOP. Otherwise the whole court system sinks under the workload.
A plea deal to avoid these perps hiring the best lawyers their money can buy, tying up the courts for a long, long time makes sense ... provided some real pain is part of the deal. Like real community service, not doing a PSA but a weekend or two picking up poop in San Fran, funding a scholarship for the real victims:those edged out for admission.
Save it baby, with any hopes you will be doing this for your comrades when they pay for their crimes against the American people

I’m a contrarian on this issue. Paying bribes to get your stupid kid into the indoctrination center of your choice is about on par with fraudulently using a wheelchair at the theme park to get to the front of the lines. It’s unethical and shows the shallowness of your character but is ultimately harmless. These people should be fined and shamed, but they should not be thrown in the slammer. It’s not as if that degree in makeup artistry is worth anything, after all. If they had bribed their way into anything worthwhile they would have flunked out anyway.
