Netanyahu won but he may not be as powerful in Israel or the U.S., former Bush official says

In assessing the Israeli election of 2019, it is essential to focus on two aspects:

First, although they did not win majority control of the 120-seat parliament (“Knesset” in Hebrew), the center-left parties, of which Blue and White was the largest, made by far the largest gain in seats from their 2015 post-election status, increasing from 35 to 41 seats.

There was a perception in both the media and academia that this election constituted a major decline in power and influence of the Israeli center-left. The numbers tell an entirely different story.

The entire left-of-center coalition in opposition to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, including the far-left Meretz party increased its number of seats from 40 to 45. Within this opposition coalition, while the center-left parties, as stated above, increased their membership in this election from 35 to 41 seats, the far-left party saw its number of seats decrease from five to four.

Unbiased objective reporting...

+++++

“Given the very high likelihood that the Democrats will win the 2020 presidential election, ousting President Donald Trump, this is a concern for the immediate future of the American-Israel alliance.”

The guy is nuts. Blue & White ran away from the stale left of the once-dominant Labor Party, which collapsed from 19 to 6 seats.

Leftist kooks Meretz dropped from 5 seats in 2015 to 4 seats this time.

B&W is trying to move to the center.

Yep. Not really interested in anything a Bush supporter has to say.

The Bush people aren’t satisfied with the messy hand-off they facilitated at the end of GW’s two terms in office.

The market crashed, the economy was in a downward spiral, and that just wasn’t bad enough.

I liked some things Bush did, but he’s not content to let bygones be bygones.

I am so sick of the family.

I wish they’d find something enjoyable to do, and leave the grownups to guide this nation forward.

Trump is not only cleaning up after Obama.

Bush has no idea that is true.

Bush League Republicans are still pursuing completion of the GHW Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA).
Trump got in the way, but they consider that a temporary impediment.
We really need to clean them out of Congress before Trump’s second term is up.

I am a Ben Sasse fan. He is a Republican I would support for president in any election. Unlike anti-science philistine dolt Trump, Sasse recognizes the reality of climate change and wants to do something about it. pic.twitter.com/viNE0AlWDY— Alan Steinberg (@Asteinberg613) November 26, 2018

This is the kind of idiot GWB had in his admin.

This is a HUGE development. Focus of investigation will be: Did Trump launder money from Russia through Deutsche Bank? https://t.co/ZvcyyBAXuw— Alan Steinberg (@Asteinberg613) April 15, 2019

Xenophobic inhumane Donald Trump hates both the rule of law and immigrants. https://t.co/W2XQpL3w7P— Alan Steinberg (@Asteinberg613) April 12, 2019

A frightening spectacle: Out-of-control and unhinged racist Trump, advised by a deplorable, politically partisan Attorney General making immigration policy. https://t.co/lO6e87KUKy via @NYTimes— Alan Steinberg (@Asteinberg613) April 12, 2019

This is the ultimate example of how profoundly evil and inhumane are sociopaths Donald Trump, Stephen Miller, and the Trumpist movement. How could I stay in a Republican Party led by Donald Trump? https://t.co/WZ2uRosupC— Alan Steinberg (@Asteinberg613) April 12, 2019

Nancy Pelosi is right. Bill Barr is an untrustworthy disgrace. Rather than dedicating himself to the rule of law, Barr is dedicating himself to the political preservation of Donald Trump, a president opposed to the rule of law. https://t.co/o7BWR8Sput— Alan Steinberg (@Asteinberg613) April 11, 2019

I despise Barr. He is Trump’s Roy Cohn, with the same degree of untrustworthiness. A truly evil character. https://t.co/fTAh5okRxF— Alan Steinberg (@Asteinberg613) April 10, 2019

HUGE. No Trump gain after Mueller Report. https://t.co/bpN6upyYdY— Alan Steinberg (@Asteinberg613) March 27, 2019

Barbara Bush was a great and good woman. I was proud to serve in the administration of her son, George W. Bush, and I shared her utter contempt for Donald Trump, the most vile and contemptible president in our nation’s history. https://t.co/Hpy7gSfZ33— Alan Steinberg (@Asteinberg613) March 27, 2019

Adam Schiff is right. Bill Barr is a disgrace, a man acting as Trump’s partisan lawyer rather than properly carrying out his duties as Attorney General of the United States. Barr is a sleaze. https://t.co/ep4M5NP1cJ— Alan Steinberg (@Asteinberg613) April 10, 2019

Israel’s electorate has never been as conservative as it is now, in the entire history of the State of Israel since 1948. The right-wing parties have 65 seats, and another 6% of the electorate voted for conservative parties that didn’t meet the threshold that they had to pass in order to get seats in the Knesset. They would have added another 4 conservative seats to the Knesset.

By contrast, the Blue White Party — which is leftist but pretended to be tough on defense and centrist — together with the now-collapsed Meretz and the Labor Party, even with the Arab parties, all of which are anti-Zionist, didn’t come close to a majority.

This guy is a joke.

Good luck with that.

Now, if we can indict some of them and clean house, I’m all for it.
