“It becomes a mosque the first time they hold a prayer service in it, per their beliefs. Certain words must be uttered.”
An astounding number of mainline Christian churches (and even evangelical ones too) are now considered mosques by the 1B+ muslims of the world for precisely this reason.

It might belong to the Catholic Church. If so, the Church should rebuild it.

I see the UN is looking to get in on the skim of rebuilding funds.

Under a 1905 law, Notre-Dame de Paris is one of 70 churches in Paris built before that year which are owned by the French state. While the building itself is owned by the state, the Catholic Church is the designated beneficiary, having the exclusive right to use it for religious purposes in perpetuity. The archdiocese is responsible for paying the employees, for security, heating and cleaning, and for ensuring that the cathedral is open free to visitors. The archdiocese does not receive subsidies from the French state.

Surprised me the Roman Catholic Church didn't own Notre Dame outright.

Im thinking some sort of composite to reduce the weight. I should think the steeple can also come in under the 750 tons of the old one. Lets cut those flying buttresses a little slack by reducing the force moving down the exterior walls

The roof was made of lead sheets, so the modern materials will take a lot of the weight off......................

This is how you know it will be rebuilt as an interfaith entity.

I didn’t think of this. You are so right.
If cost of rebuilding = X
Cost of rebuilding with UN help = 10X

It belongs to the state - to the govt. of France--- IIRC, because the Archdiocese of Paris could not afford the the requisite maintenance and repair, and France could not afford to let it crumble and lose it as a national cultural monument and tourist attraction. So it became a U.N. World Cultural site, concert venue and French Ministry of Heritage (or whatever) asset.
This is not unusual in these post-Christian cultural milieux.
However, it was still a working house of Prayer. A FReeper posted on one of these threads the daily and weekly prayer schedule: Masses, Liturgy of the Hours and so forth.
No Imams or Mullahs, no Salat, as far as I know.

This is how you know it will be rebuilt as an interfaith entity. Indeed - there will be countless strings attached to any UN funding. France would do well to politely decline the offer.

The UN will help as long as it’s rebuilt as a mosque.
