MSNBC Pushes Nancy Pelosi Myth: '1 in 5 Children in America Goes to Sleep Hungry'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 04/16/2019 9:03:46 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

The notion that there is a crisis of child hunger in America is among the many myths that liberals like to propagate to justify ever-more government. Interviewed in London yesterday, Nancy Pelosi cited an oft-used false statistic on the subject.

On Tuesday, MSNBC's Morning Joe played that clip with delight. Mika Brzezinski announced at a commercial break they would play Pelosi "taking on the myth of AOC." Was she taking on myths, or spreading myths? Pelosi said Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won in a "safe" district, and the Democrats need to win swing districts:

PELOSI: When we won this election, it wasn't in districts like mine or Alexandria's—and she's a wonderful member of Congress, I think all of our colleagues will attest. But those are districts that are solidly Democratic. This glass of water would win with a "D" next to its name. But the 43 districts--we won 43, net gain of 40--were right down the middle. Mainstream, hold-the-center, victories. And if we're going to be helping the one of five children in America goes to sleep hungry at night, who lives in poverty in our country, we have to win."

What a crock. The biggest health problem low income kids have these days is obesity.

The reason the kids are going hungry is because Democrats promote and glorify single parent households. Want to be assigned hero status - be a single parent. It’s the number 1 cause of childhood poverty.

No kids are going to bed hungry in America. Don't just accept the liberal dogma.

Our biggest social problem in America = obesity.

That’d be about right. That’s the number of leftist children.

I am so tired of this crap. The only children who go to bed hungry are those being abused or neglected by their parents. In addition to the food stamps program and WIC, children receive “free” breakfast, lunch, and a take-home meal at school throughout the year. In addition, there are food banks, church pantries, and many other private charities that feed people.

The other thing that makes me mad is the so-called poverty statistics. They do not count non-cash government benefits when they report these phony stats. A family can be getting food stamps, Medicaid, “free” Head Start programs and public schools for the kiddies, “free” or subsidized housing and utilities, even a free phone, and have the income they deem as being poverty level and still be considered poor.

Have you ever watched the shows where they show people in housing projects? Look at the cars, the expensive cell phones (not the cheapo Obamaphones), the clothing, the expensive manicures, etc. This is poverty??? Real poverty is found in Venezuela, not the US. The only desperately poor people in the US are street people who are addicts, mentally ill, or just choose to live that way. It’s all a giant scam.

Show me the math. How much do we spend on the various state and federal agencies that are supposed to be handling this issue? Now, divide that number by the number of children who supposedly go to bed hungry. What do you get? Yeah, that’s what I got - a crock o’ sh*t.

Behind every hungry child in America there is a neglectful or dysfunctional adult.
Not the government, not "society", not the taxpayers.

Well if it’s true that one out of five children go to sleep hungry who’s fault is that/Where are the communities these children residing?I’ll bet in democrat run fiefdoms.Who don’t deserve to run a candy stand.

If there are that many starving children why are Pelosi and the Democrat party doing everything in their power to bring more impoverished third world parasites into this country to consume what should be reserved for our country’s children?

And the free school breakfasts, and lunches are not deducted from the family’s foot stamp allowance. And many schools provide “backpacks” for weekends so the kids don’t starve when they aren’t getting a school lunch. And school are now providing free lunches for everyone under 18 (or who looks like they could be under 18) for anyone during summer vacation. Of course to criticize any of this is hateful.
