Julien Le Bras had vowed that his building firm would 'not put the building at risk' when it won the contract
He said 'there is no question that we will put any pressure' on the spire of the cathedral - which fell last night
French investigators are now probing the renovation work as they examine the causes of Monday's huge fire ============================================================================
A young construction boss boasted about his firm's ability to protect historic sites when it won a contract to repair the spire of Notre Dame, MailOnline can reveal.
Julien Le Bras declared last year: 'Our first thought is to protect the values of historical buildings, it's in our DNA.'
His company, Le Bras Freres, a small company known as the 'Cathedral Restorers', had won the £5million contract to repair the spire of the Paris landmark.
Today craftsmen from the company were being questioned by investigators after the spire came crashing down in Monday's blaze, which caused such extensive damage that experts believe it could take decades to repair.
Investigators believe the devastating blaze started in the roof cavity below the spire where the work, which included the use of electric tools, was being carried out.
The blaze began at around 6.50pm but workers would reportedly have downed tools between 5pm and 5.30pm.
Mr le Bras told reporters at the scene: 'We want more than anyone for light to be shed on the origin of this drama.'
He said his company has 12 workers involved in the refurbishment, though none were on site at the time of the fire.

It will be interesting but if it was terrorism they will lie.
They will fail to stop that speculation. This is too suspicious .
No offense. I took one year in high school. It has been a few years.
The fire wasnt even out yet, and the French authorities had already ruled out arson and terrorism. Totally irrational. I hope thats just a cover for a serious investigation but I doubt it. Because, you know, France ...
“How dare you use common sense, reason, and rational thought.”
I know, but someone’s gotta do it
Yep, they're everywhere. Even under your bed........So be very careful........
Yes. It makes no sense to claim to know for sure this soon.
I ran a joint venture with a contractor in France for a while and spent much time in their plant. At quitting time, managers would go around and tell everyone to quit and go home. The theory in France is that working overtime, especially unpaid casual overtime, takes potential jobs away from the unemployed.
They were not there at the time of the fire, but when they left at 5:30 they left all their hot tools, generators and all the extension cords, probably all overheated
So, we should know more about who checked the first time, what they found, and how they carefully they checked and where they checked in relation to in relation to where the fire broke out.
Well said. I concur.
(Despite your name, you apparently did skim it.)
LOL!
You are dead on!! This was muslims from all the evidence and they cannot let that out. It destroys THEM because they let the bastards in!
my thinking is that it could have been a semi-untrained church worker, and he or she could now be totally devastated. i was barking up the muslim conspiracy tree a few hours ago. that might be fine but the fire had been detected early, so the proximal cause of the vast majority of the damage imho is, in this purely hypothetical conjecture, simple lack of adequate training of church staff to handle smoke detection alarm events. that in turn possibly goes back to the church administration.
we do not know that yet.
it could be a malfunctioning handheld power tool lithium battery.
it could be oil soaked rags and a cigarette butt.
it could be some delayed fuse terrorist incendiary bomb.
it could be something else (eg false flag operation).
maybe the authorities know more and are not saying, for some reason or another, related or not to terrorism, which is another possibilility at another level.
personally i would be somewhat relieved if it was not terrorism, since that could get very ugly very fast.
my sense is that the media has been advised to clamp down on speculation. maybe... there might be some justification for that advice...
(all pure speculation on my part, i have no knowledge and next to no training)
France24 was saying terrorism yesterday
I figure the entire country and maybe more would ammo up and have a new crusade if the islamonazis are fingered
today france24 does not seem to be going that far (to me anyways):

It could be that a poorly trained or careless person responded to the first alarm and found nothing or missed a small fire. I am very curious what that person did to check and what they saw. On the other hand, maybe it’s not so easy to start a fire, and maybe someone’s first attempt set off the alarm but failed. Who knows?
I for one do not know.
However, if I had set a first fire, and it had failed to start a blaze, then I would not be hanging around inside the building to see if the blaze started and to attempt to start another fire if my first attempt failed. I would have left the building, watched from a distance, gone home if a blaze had not occurred, designed a better incendiary device, and returned a respectable time later to try again, if I was that persistent and willing to take that amount of risk.
In Germany it is similar, but instead of taking potential jobs away from the unemployed, it’s taking time away from drinking beer.......................
