Poll: Roy Moore Leads GOP Field for Alabama Senate
The Hill ^

Posted on 04/16/2019 8:11:21 AM PDT by TroutGuy

Former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore leads the field of potential Republicans vying for the chance to challenge Sen. Doug Jones (D), a year and a half after Moore lost what was supposed to be an easy election in a deep-red state.

A new poll shows Moore leading a still-evolving field of Alabama Republicans competing for the nomination. He is the top choice of 27 percent of Alabama Republican voters, according to the Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy Inc. survey.

The state’s three Republican members of Congress finish well behind Moore: Rep. Mo Brooks would take 18 percent, Rep. Bradley Byrne clocks in at 13 percent and Rep. Gary Palmer would take 11 percent.

He’s an agent for the Rats, or at least he might as well be.

Probably very accurate. Moore has, and has had for years, solid support of about 1/4 to 1/3 of Republican voters. That has enabled him to win several Republican primaries and be elected to the state supreme court twice. But his support wasn't enough to win more competitive races for him when he ran for governor and US senator.

Hopefully with the runoff system, he will not be able to win the Republican US senate primary again. And Mitch needs to keep his nose out of it this time.

Wow, how times have changed. I can remember being hammered on this site when I said that these women’s allegations are credible and this guy is creepy. This poll probably has more to do with name identification than anything at this stage. Don’t get your shorts in a bunch. I can’t see him being the nominee.

My only anger about his creepy stories was directed at his opponents. Republican oppo research seems to be non existent, witness the Virginia governor’s race. I’m all for oppo research in the primaries because it helps to weed out candidates like this.

Unfortunately, it seems none of the GOP alternatives to Moore are much better.

I thought I read somewhere that Jeff Sessions was considering running for his old Senate seat. While a lousy AG, I have no problems with him back in his old Senate seat. He was a good senator IMO.

Between Sessions and Sexy Rexy, I'm not sure which one was President Trump's worst cabinet pick.

This is satire right?

In Kansas we lost the governorship because goofball Kris Kobach decided to challenge the republican incumbent and while winning the primary barely tanked the general and lost. His passion is with immigration not as governor. Wait until out state has the next senate race and all sorts of goofballs may enter it making it a free for all in the GOP primary.

Is Moore actually running, though? I'm still waiting to hear that Moore has sued his accusers. If he hasn't done that yet, then he needs to go away.

Jeff Sessions is 72 and he's old and tired. Doesn't Alabama have a younger conservative to elect as their senator? I'm sick of all these old career politicians in politics. Same old, same old.

I realize that Trump is older but Trump has the vigor and energy of somebody 30 years younger and he's new to the political scene.

Trump breaks the paradigm that we need a professional politician. Lets no go back to that! Come on Alabama don’t you have any conservative who has been successful but hasn’t spent his life trolling for votes?
