Trump says Tiger Woods will receive Medal of Freedom

President Trump said Monday he will award pro golf great Tiger Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom on the heels of his comeback win at last weekend’s Masters Tournament.

“Spoke to @TigerWoods to congratulate him on the great victory he had in yesterday’s @TheMasters, & to inform him that because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!” Trump tweeted.

Woods’ victory on Sunday gave him his 15th major championship win and his fifth Masters title.

But FReepers can’t abide. It’s stupid to them(not all, obviously).

Nice way to show love and support. Unbelievable.

I had turned on coverage, walked into the kitchen to tell my wife Tiger might win again and when I got back he had already done it. Got to see him hug his kids.

I never hated Tiger Woods for his foibles. I don't believe in divorce but I don't believe it is mine to judge others.

We wouldn’t even know who he was if he wasn’t black.

Have you ever played golf? Do you know that the Master is the Superbowl of Golf? Do you know this is his fifth green jacket? Do you know the record is six green jackets and only one person has won six Masters Tournaments? As old as Tiger Woods is, it is possible Tiger woods could match Jack Nicklaus' six wins?

Wouldn't even know who he was... Get real.

Actually Wayne did not dodge the draft.

Well, he also didn't enlist, unlike the rest of his Hollywood contemporaries.

Oh, sure. He said he would join after making one or two more movies, but somehow made 13 more before the war ended and never joined.

No studio boss was going to sue anyone for joining up at a time of war, despite Wayne's excuses to the contrary. It was Yates who got Wayne reclassified back to 2-A.

WRT the family deferment, it's true that Wayne did have a wife and kids. But, so did Henry Fonda, Jimmy Stewart, Robert Montgomery, Ronald Reagan, (blind as a bat) and Clark Gable, who, incidentally, was 41 when he joined. Gene Autry (who was married and the same age as Wayne) joined up and earned the rank of tech sergeant and eventually worked his way up to being a pilot flying the Hump between India and China.

BTW, John Ford ran the O.S.S. film unit. Reportedly, Wayne asked Ford to let him join his unit as a Marine or Sailor, but the only openings were in the Army unit.

Dan Ford recalled that Wayne told him he had been approved by O.S.S. commander William Donovan to join the Field Photographic Unit, but that the letter went to his estranged wife Josephine’s home and she never told him about it. That story is a yarn because here is a photo of Wayne in (civilian) uniform standing next to Donovan.

Wayne is quoted in Dan Ford’s book that “I got to go places the average entertainer wouldn’t get to go… but I never did catch up with MacArthur. When I got back to the States I made my report, and they gave me a plaque saying I had served in the O.S.S. But it was a copperhead, something Jack (Ford) had set up. It didn’t mean anything.” When the certificate was sent to Ford’s home to give to Wayne, he (Wayne) didn’t even bother to pick it up and it remained amongst the director’s personal effects until his death.

I have seen more articles about Tiger Woods winning than Notre Dame burning: a sign of the times.

I was following Tiger at Sawgrass when he “supposedly” hurt his back.....at the time I told my wife he was struggling and hit another bad shot and his arrogance was the reason he pulled out, not his back....but I did discover a very great and humble golfer that day..Jim Furyk.....late in the afternoon...several pros were signing autographs for kids and it began to rain....all the other golfers left but Jim stayed and got soaked till there were no more kids..He became my new guy to follow

Sports figures and other entertainers do not deserve this kind of recognition for playing a sport, acting, singing, etc.

If they do some outstanding charitable or humanitarian work then maybe yes for that endeavor.

I think the medal is ok. If Tiger were a British citizen he would have a knighthood by now.

Didn’t realize that presidents pass out so many! Kind of like “grade-inflation” devalues the previous awards as time goes by:

I know a hundred men who never will come back from their career ending injuries. They actually paid for freedom with limbs, eyes and minds. Woods is just another celeb crock of sour pickles. That’s why I abhor pro sports and celebrities in general. Life is not a photo op for the real hero’s. Get a grip Mr President.

Woods will join Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Charles Siffords among golfers who have received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

I’m neutral of this action. But I can see how Tiger’s comeback is good for golf and if golf is made better .....well it follows.

If it irritates one radical liberal then, so be it. Good going 45.

Trump should invite Obama to the ceremony. Obama has so much Tiger Woods envy it would be delicious.//
///////////

Obama congratulated Tiger via Twitter. How ironic. Tiger is a mixed race celebrity who was vilified by white and black liberals when he embraced his multi-racial heritage, his true identity. Obama is universally loved by the same groups because he threw his white half under the bus and pretended he was black. Tiger has been true to his mother and his asian roots and has always been American.
Additionally his foundation and golf tournament has done a lot for the military and also has maintained his close relationship with Trump.
Accepting this award from our President will lose him a lot of this new found love from the left. I don’t think Tiger cares however. Be interesting to see the left’s reaction

Obama is always on the outside looking in. He doesn’t fit anywhere it is pretty sad. The Democrats made him even more of a freak with their identity politics. DC was not a welcoming town for the Obamas. Not a single country club wanted him as a member when he left the White House.they were always sending the city into complete gridlock at their whim and people got sick of it.I see Trump’shelicopters fly overhead almost everyday and I wave. I am so happy Obama and the Clintons are gone. Life is good. God Bless our selfless president DJT.

As usual, you got me. lol

Rangers hold no interest for me anymore. We'll probably still go to a couple of games a year, but the prices at the new stadium are sure to be outrageous.
