Notre Dame cathedral has caught fire, according to the Parisian fire service and eyewitnesses.
Footage posted online shows a large fire engulfing the upper part of the cathedral, with the flames licking around its two bell towers.
A major operation was under way, the fire department added, while a city hall spokesman said on Twitter that the area was being cleared.
Officials in Paris said the fire could be linked to renovation works being carried out at the cathedral.
It comes after France's Saint Sulpice church , used in the filming of Dan Browns Da Vinci Code thriller, caught fire in March.

Other than the historical loss, I doubt very much if this will bother a large number of the French.
Ive heard attacks on Churches are happening daily now.
Links or its fake news...
Fox news is saying there is no water being used to put out the fire.
I'm sure that will be the story -- no matter what.
Thank you very much for that link, and being a responsible Freeper.
“Its an old building, could very well be unrelated to Muslims. “
So what...blame them anyhow because they are loving it and would do it in a heartbeat.
“the (Notre Dame) roof structure is entirely made of wood, dating back from the 12th century. The wood-timber frame is made of more than 1300 trees, each beam being made from one tree.”

The tragedy is if the church isn’t rebuilt.
Churches have burned before and been rebuilt. Perhaps some good will come of it, if the French wake up.
The media keep saying its not terrorism, which means it is.
Its so obvious. Of course its terrorism.
The muzzies are celebrating all over the world.
In 1548, rioting Huguenots damaged some of the statues of Notre-Dame, considering them idolatrous.[12] During the reigns of Louis XIV and Louis XV, the cathedral underwent numerous alterations to comply with the more classical style of the period. The sanctuary was re-arranged; the choir was largely rebuilt in marble, and many of the stained glass windows from the 12th and 13th century were removed and replaced with white glass windows, to bring more light into the church. A colossal statue of St Christopher, standing against a pillar near the western entrance and dating from 1413, was destroyed in 1786. The spire, which had been damaged by the wind, was removed in the second part of the 18th century.
In 1793, during the French Revolution, the cathedral was rededicated to the Cult of Reason, and then to the Cult of the Supreme Being. During this time, many of the treasures of the cathedral were either destroyed or plundered. The twenty-eight statues of biblical kings located at the west facade, mistaken for statues of French kings, were beheaded.[13] Many of the heads were found during a 1977 excavation nearby, and are on display at the Musée de Cluny. For a time the Goddess of Liberty replaced the Virgin Mary on several altars.[14] The cathedral’s great bells escaped being melted down. All of the other large statues on the facade, with the exception of the statue of the Virgin Mary on the portal of the cloister, were destroyed.[6] The cathedral came to be used as a warehouse for the storage of food and other non-religious purposes[12]
In July 1801, the new ruler, Napoleon Bonaparte, signed an agreement to restore the cathedral to the Church. It was formally transferred on April 18, 1802. It was the setting of Napoleon’s coronation as Emperor on December 2, 1804, and of his marriage to Marie-Louise of Austria in 1810.

Is Paris burning?
Pope to come out strongly against global warming, in 3, 2, 1...
If it was arson, I doubt the perp wwnt up rhere and lit it with a match. More likely devices were ser there to burn at a later time.
Roof is gone, spire is gone. I’m glad I got to see it last summer; I will be surprised if it’s rebuilt in my lifetime.
Yup. This absolutely breaks my heart... been to St. Sulpice, Notre Dame, etc. many, many times. I can't believe I'm seeing this.
Maybe it was some muzzie who worked on the construction crew....? Wouldn't surprise me.
FNC now saying three relics were placed in the spire, which is now nearly burned completely. Including a tiny piece of the Crown of Thorns.
FNC is wondering where the Paris fire brigade is?! I wish *American* firefighters could be there. This fire has been burning since 6:50 pm local time...
Other than churches in The South that Bill Clinton witnessed being burned, I cannot recall a church burning story in my lifetime. Now a cathedral that has stood for 800 years catches fire in Paris. During Easter Week. I cannot believe this is an accident.
It is just awful.
I pray they are able to contain it quickly and there is no damage to the structural integrity
