Las Cruces, N.M. pleads for help amid migrant dropoffs: (trunc)

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Border Patrol agents dropped off asylum-seeking migrants in New Mexico’s second most populous city for the second day in a row Saturday, prompting Las Cruces city officials to appeal for donations of food and personal hygiene items and a state medical program to seek volunteers to provide health assessments of migrants.

The migrants were being temporarily housed at a homeless shelter in Las Cruces, a city recreation center and a campus of social service agencies, city officials said in a statement.

The statement said 83 migrants arrived Saturday, following about 95 who were dropped off by the Border Patrol on Friday at the Gospel Rescue Mission homeless shelter and the Community of Hope campus.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reported Las Cruces churches for months have been providing temporary shelter to migrants released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention but that Friday was the first time that the Border Patrol vans dropped off migrants at the homeless shelter.

City spokesman Udell Vigil said Saturday that migrants could be arriving “for the next several days.”

Las Cruces is not a sanctuary city that rebuffs federal officials carrying out deportation orders.

I didn’t say I *agreed* with it or supported it. Just pointing out that this is what the law/long standing court interpretations of it are.

https://www.militarytimes.com/news/your-military/2018/10/31/federal-law-limits-what-us-troops-deployed-at-the-border-can-do/

” That means the troops will not be allowed to detain immigrants, seize drugs from smugglers or have any direct involvement in stopping a migrant caravan that is still about 1,000 miles from the nearest border crossing.”

Prior case law:

https://sites.duke.edu/lawfire/2018/04/16/what-does-the-law-say-about-putting-troops-on-the-border/

Bottom line: For past 40 odd years, the courts have pretty consistently rules that unarmed illegals entering the country are a law enforcement issue and that posse comitatus applies - military may not be used to apprehend them.

Many of us were screaming at Congress to fix this in 2017-2018. Much like so much else TurtleCo/Lyin’ Ryan didn’t do and slowwalked, this didn’t go through.

I have lived for the past 8 years near Las Cruces, in Truth or Consequences. The people here are mostly dirt poor, and now they are about to become poorer. I am convinced voter fraud got a U.S. Senator there elected last November, and that the democrats currently running that state is all for this invasion. God help the good people of New Mexico. It has become overrun with California liberals, intent on turning it into California. I have so many friends there, good, hardworking and honest people, and they will be hurt the worst. They are under siege.

That “Blue Wave” came when the election was won by a republican, and the democrats somehow were able to find thousands of “lost” ballots at the last minute, all for the democrat candidate, a former Sen. Tom Udall staffer. Her name is Xochetl Torres-Small. She came to T or C recently and contacted the local democrat party and met with them privately, not even notifying the media. I write for a small weekly newspaper there and I reported it, and have since been taken off their press list.

I love the farmers in Hatch, but if I find out they are employing these illegals I am calling ICE. You should also. These illegals coming now won’t be through the court system for years, so they can’t legally be employed anyway. Besides, thanks to former democrat AG Gary King, Texas is likely to win the water lawsuit and they will be out of business anyway.

I’d bet more than half the workers in US agriculture are illegals.

At the peak of season the tomato field next door might have 100 pickers, all Latino. Maybe 1 in 20 speaks enough English to understand me.

That big, new grocery store in Hatch has non English speaking employees. But most important of all, Sparkey’s Burgers are the best on the planet.

Perhaps the "wrong" town, but Las Cruces is not a sanctuary city that rebuffs federal officials carrying out deportation orders. may explain part of why ///

Santa Fe is where they need to be taking them. Drop them off in front of the Round House. See if our governor will still think it is a made up crisis.

Republicans have been integral to being a roadblock to Trump on immigration reforms and securing our southern border. If republicans had really wanted to do something about anything, they had 2 years. Trump would have signed stuff, just send it to him.
