What I’ve Learned From Collecting Stories of People Whose Loved Ones Were Transformed by Fox News
New York Magazine ^ | Apr. 9, 2019 | Luke O'Neil

It was somewhere around the 100th response that my brain turned to mush.

Last week, I devoted an installment of my newsletter Welcome to Hell World to a dozen stories from people who, like me, had close relationships that had been strained or ruined by family members who’d become obsessed with Fox News.

No matter where the stories came from they all featured a few familiar beats: A loved one seemed to have changed over time. Maybe that person was already somewhat conservative to start. Maybe they were apolitical. But at one point or another, they sat down in front of Fox News, found some kind of deep, addictive comfort in the anger and paranoia, and became a different person — someone difficult, if not impossible, to spend time with. The fallout led to failed marriages and estranged parental relationships. For at least one person, it marks the final memory he’ll ever have of his father: “When I found my dad dead in his armchair, fucking Fox News was on the TV,” this reader told me. “It’s likely the last thing he saw. I hate what that channel and conservative talk radio did to my funny, compassionate dad. He spent the last years of his life increasingly angry, bigoted, and paranoid.”News.

Please, everyone, seek out One America News Network.

I guess Fox news has spoiled me. OANN is too much like CNN in the old days. The same news was recycled every half hour all day long. It seems I now prefer editorializing that comes from the right wing. OANN is boring.

She was on Graham Norton the other day.
Sally’s aging well and is as loony as ever.

This Intelligencer is one steaming pile of crap after another. I’d never looked at it before.

Look at the sidebar on the article’s link. One winner after another:

For example:

“Why Ilhan Omar never stood a chance”

“The Opportunity of White Anxiety”

“In Bill Barr, Trump has finally found his new fixer.”

OAN is not available here. I have seen it in other places and I do like it. I don’t hang out in the office so don’t rely on the computer for general news. I do follow Drudge and FR on the computer when sitting in there.

“This Intelligencer is one steaming pile of crap after another. I’d never looked at it before.”

This is New York Magazine.

But I agree with your characterization.

These idiot leftists don’t even realize that Kristol and Fox are closer to being on their side than ours.

The link and the headline said “Intelligencer”, and there’s an Intelligencer logo there.

I’m not as much interested in being “right,” as in knowing before hand what turds to avoid clicking on. Surfing can be so hard.

I’ve avoided New York Magazine, but only incidentally, because I’ve learned to avoid The New Yorker. Grammatically and structurally good writing, but increasingly and unrelentingly pinned left. Too bad... I used to read The New Yorker in dentist and doctor offices a generation ago. The writing was good, and they had a unique, funky cartoon style with a very dry humor.

Funny, most of my family outside of my own are vitriolic anti Trump. That doesn't bother me at all....

They can believe whatever they want about Trump. It's a free country...

Of course because I support Trump (policies) I am a racist, homophobic, hate all immigrants, basically an idiot mouth breathing hater bent on destroying the country.

They claim Fox News corrupted my mind especially Sean Hannity, whom I rather dislike, not because of his policies but because he's a blowhard which I never watch...

I was even accused of being a "Q" follower LOL

They tried for months to get me to see the "light" and denounce Trump.

I had to cut them off.

It’s only OK...it’s boring and repetitive, so it gets little attention from me.

“Worthless read... Faux pycho babbling.”

The reason why the article is important is because it shows the recent false narrative by the Democrats, the leftists and the media. The narrative is simple. Democrats are always right about everything. Anyone who disagrees with them is brainwashed by Fox News. Any conservative media brainwashes people and turns them into hateful bigots.

This is the basis for the internet companies and social media sites removing conservative content from their platforms.

This is the reason for silencing free speech in universities and other areas.

This is real. This is what is happening.

You usually don’t see it displayed as openly as this, but that is what Democrats and the media are saying.

Well, the comic Boozo-the-clown Luke O’Neil should be grateful that none of the Fox News viewers have dragged him into the street and blown his commie brains out - yet.

Before anyone gets too riled up please read the entire article. It reeks of mock outrage and tweaking the over-sensitivity of hyper-liberals much like Steven Colbert did to conservatives when he pretended to be patriotic.

Or the author truly IS an NPC drone - but I doubt that because he constructed paragraphs.

He is serious.

He also wishes he could secretly urinate in conservatives’ food.

There is no difference between Fox News and CNN or MSNBC. Just that Fox is on the right and the others are on the left. It’s just mere political perspective. If you believe one side, the other side may appear wrong or evil to you. And if your family member believes the other side, and comfortably watches her opinion on her news, it is no different than you comfortably watching your own opinion on your news. It doesn’t mean your opinion was formed by your news.
