Franklin TX just took a direct hit from a strong tornado....major damage and injuries now being reported...

Oh, I gotcha. Cuba is a small town in central west Alabama, right on the Mississippi line. I get a kick out the name.

It looks to be moving almost north to south there. But the rotation of the earth tells me there must be some eastwardly movement.

Ya we couldn’t believe it up here that tornadoes occurred in March! But it was really unseasonably warm here as well. What you are describing however wasn’t reported by the news. We were told there were tornadoes but they didn’t describe how bad they were. I knew they were bad because I had spoken to a few people that apparently had relatives in the area. The fetch of plentiful moisture off the Gulf is going to keep feeding the front itself. Remember, this was an Arctic bomb cyclone that dumped up to 30” of snow in the Rockies and upper Midwest. It’s sucking on warm Gulf waters like I chug a cold beer in August. That vertical column of cold air mixing down and warm, humid air convecting up is making for some seriously strong storms. It’s when you get a strong CAPE (Convective Available Potential Energy) and a more horizontal convection profile that your see the worst straight-line winds and cyclonic activity. In systems like this, it’s not specifically where the center of the low is heading; there’s a myriad of other factors involved that only a trained meteorologist and a computer can attempt to forecast. My training consists of applied field meteorology and some college courses. I’m on a new computer and some of the analytical programs I diddle with aren’t loaded. I’ll tell you this much: I’ve been a weather nut for half a century and I’m in the middle of filing for medical disability; if/when my lawyers ram it through, I’m going to finish my damned weather degree.
Thanks, I guess this north, northeast front will just continue drifting gradually to the east until it slowly crosses Alabama starting after midnight in the western part of the state.
I’m in the 5 am to noon threat area and will probably try to be awake around 4:30 and see what’s up. I have a storm pit built in the 1950s that is still usable.

The Front just passed thru us. Not too much at all. Just a lot of thunder, rain medium to moderate, winds not too strong.
Good thing we’re on the early morning side of this before the Sun heats up the top of the clouds.

Tornado warning an hour ago West of Troy, nothing else since.
I’m thinking that it is almost over for us. We should have rain for about an hour. But nothing seems to be west of that.
Lucked out in the Clay County area, and most of the state for that matter. Only a little rain and distant thunder here and that has now passed over. But there is a tornado warning in Russell County that has been there for a fair amount of time.
I heard a boom about 9 AM that woke me up; a few more smaller ones over the subsequent several minutes. My wife checked the church’s Facebook page, and the pastor said they were going to livestream the 11 AM service so people wouldn’t have to drive in the foul weather. It’s sunny now, but the wind is gusty and they have an advisory out. May see some sporadic power outages through tonight. Temps down into the middle 40’s, so a log on the fire may be called for.
Try pouring a large bucket of boiling water down the fire ant mound. Regarding the snake bite, it has been reported that giving very large amounts of Vitamin C can greatly reduce the danger. I mean like 50 to 100 grams over a several hour period, that’s 50,000 to 100,000 milligrams. Once I was camped with a large group in the wilderness. A woman was stung in the neck by several yellow jackets and had left her bee allergy hypo kit at home. That evening when I arrived at the “Mash” tent, her face and eyes were completely swollen, and her throat was closing up. I immediately crushed 10 1,000 milligram Vitamin C tablets, dissolved in water and had her drink it. In about 20 minutes her throat began to open up and she could open her eyes again. After the first hour I gave her another 10,000 mg. and spent the next 5 hours with her giving her 5,000 mg every hour. By then, she felt a lot better, and I left her with the Vitamin C bottle to give them to herself as needed. When I went back after sleeping, she had packed up and walked out.
To learn more, Google “medical uses of high dosage Vitamin C.” You should find a lot of interesting stuff. I think this could be used for highly dangerous hemorrhagic fever type illnesses like Ebola and Hanta virus. Their symptoms are like those of severe scurvy which is cured by Vitamin C.

What worries me is that if this warming trend continues the Gulf Stream could be erased when it’s waters get north, but don’t freeze creating saltier/heavier water that will sink and flow back to the equator. Then we really will get cold weather in the north and especially Europe which could start the next ice age. I am 80 years old have lived in the East and the Middle West, and I have watched the warming trend for several decades now. Whether it is anthropogenic or not, warming is really happening. Reducing fossil fuel use may not be the answer, but we do need to consider our low lying cities and military facilities, also drier and wetter areas that need to change operating procedures and crops. Already we are seeing more major hurricanes, much heavier rainfall and flooding, etc.
