House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal is not backing down on his request for six years of the President Donald Trump's personal and business tax returns, he writes In a new letter sent Saturday to IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig.
In a two-page letter, Neal writes that he believes his committee is well within its rights to see the President's tax returns and that he expects a decision from the IRS within the next 10 days.
"I expect a reply from the IRS by 5:00 p.m. on April 23, 2019. Please know that if you fail to comply, your failure will be interpreted as a denial of my request," Neal writes.

....their objective is now shifting to making it impossible for him to get re-elected.
With the collapse of Russia-gate, the Left has missed its opportunity to gin up a fake scandal and engineer a public outcry.
The way this fake political scandal stunt works is that you get one bite at the apple. Now that POTUS has survived this Mueller witch hunt, he is innoculated from further fake scandals.
The public was warned that Donald Trump was all manner of evil, unfit for office, a traitor, etc... they said they had proof. So, out of due diligence, the American people tolerated this witch hunt.
But the witch hunt came up empty-handed and President Trump has a track record - the economy did not tank - WWIII did it break out. Trump voters have no buyers remorse and even most who voted against him reluctantly admit having him as President is not the end of the world after all.
The American people will not endorse another witch hunt against this President.
The bottom line is good for our side: if the Democrats continue to double down on the same losing get Trump gamble, instead of coming up with a positive agenda of their own, they will lose badly in 2020, POTUS will win in an epic landslide, and with long coattails.
Just imagine having to run against making America great again - against border security - against being energy independent and becoming the leading energy producer in the world - against job creation - against protecting the unborn - against stopping invasion of gangs and drugs - against free enterprise - against the scientific reality that male and female are biologically different - against the constitutional limits of government power. Yet, thats exactly the political nightmare scenario the Democrats are embracing.
I pray you are correct. You make a lot of sense, but the electorate is fickle and it seems what happens in the three months before the election is what really matters.
I fear (as I outlined above) there will be some sort of subconscious thought “Yeah, he did all those great things, but I know he is a skunk or he wouldn’t have been investigated.” It’s human nature.
There is no doubt the Dems are running on fumes. All they have, ALL, is nothing but identity politics. Just look at the socialist monsters now spouting off in Congress. Nothing but attacks on people for perceived grievances.
Hey, Richard Neal, you worthless piece of garbage, how ‘bout you stop harassing our wonderful president and instead do something that actually helps improve America (like resigning in disgrace?)
What happens in the three months before the election is what really matters.
Thats true - if something negative blows up the summer before the election it could definitely hurt his chances.
What Im saying is that it would have to be a real and unrefutable something - not one of these manufactured scandals thats obviously coming from the Left.
Trump is just as vulnerable as any politician if they discover something awful about his past, he makes a huge blunder, or even if the economy tanks badly on his watch.
But I think hes innoculated from a drummer up political scandal, since hes already passed that hurdle.
Im hopeful that hes a smart cookie and wont make any big blunders. I also believe hes s good man and has nothing awful in his past to be uncovered.
My real worry is that the economy is fickle and could easily go south at any time. Hes been lucky so far - but luck it is; the economy operates at the whim of the big bank cartels ie the Fed and - which no President can control.
They can legally ask to see anyone’s IIRC, but only for viewing in closed session, and they might need reason, but can’t remember. The problem is they will leak whatever, for political reasons.
$100K? Boy are you small time. $100k won't settle the annual bar tab in DC.
Ratchet it up to a couple of million and now we have some head room to talk bid'ness.
Not might, but they do need a valid reason as does anyone executing the discretion of his office.
LOL I thought the same thing. A NEW letter. Now we know they're serious.
Soon to be followed by yet another strongly worded letter.
Not that Im a fan of the IRS, but in this case Id like to see:
IRS to Neal - the IRS has noted significant discrepancies on each of your income tax returns pertaining to your large donations to NAMBLA dating back to 2013. Please contact your regional office immediately, as audits of each of those years returns are imperative.
After we get a release of Lois Lerners emails with Obama ops.
Your request has been temporarily denied. Please resubmit in 90 days for final denial.
His response should explicitly state, “we believe the request violate IRS regulations and the constitution. Therefor, we would welcome having this issue ruled upon by the USSC”. See ya there.
So now we are back to his taxes. Good grief Russia failed an d now this again. Just let it go socialists and understand you lost with a corrupt candidate.
