U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat running for president in 2020, delivered donuts and coffee to picketing Stop & Shop workers in Somerville on Friday, and urged shoppers to take their business elsewhere.
Do not cross the picket line, Warren said. Understand people on the picket line are not just fighting for their families. Theyre fighting for all our families. Theyre fighting for basic fairness and equality in this country.
On Thursday, the unions representing 31,000 Stop & Shop workers across Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut voted to go on strike. Their contract expired in February, and they have been unable to reach a deal on a new one.
...
Speaking to reporters, Warren reiterated the message that she has been campaigning on for years, that the wealthy are taking advantage of the working class. This is the problem all across this country is that those at the top think that they can just keep sucking out every bit of profit and leave nothing for the working people, the people who actually get out there and make it happen every day, Warren said.
What people are asking for here is theyre just asking for fair wages, theyre asking for health care benefits and just as shot at a decent retirement, she said.
Says the millionaire faux injun. One more reason TO cross the picket line. If I lived there I would.
WEARING GLASSES doesn’t make you smarter!!!
Just ask that dingbat who was spokeswoman, I think, for obummer.
Can we drive past the Stop & Shop with the radio on?
I guess it is an established reality is that labor has the right to organize into unions. What they DO NOT have the right is to avoid the consequences of doing so. Liberals want to force companies to accept unions. They want government to subsidize labor unions (just look at Davis-Bacon). The free markets are harsh on those that mess with them. Unions destroy companies and entire industries. Stop & Shop is learning that lesson the hard way.
Hope the workers know where to go of a hand out when they drive he company they’re working for out of business. S&S is known to be the best paying grocery store to work for.
And after the abuse I got from their workers when I ran in to pick up a few things after work yesterday, when the strike is over, I’ll never go in there again.
Not crossing the picket lines means taking your business elsewhere (probably to a non-union shop).
Unless you are planning on not eating for the duration of the strike.
This helps these workers HOW, exactly?
This Marxist maniac is scrounging for every leftist union vote. Totally predictable and phony.
But it is ok for aliens to cross our borderline illegally. Guess she doesn’t realize they take jobs from Americans. What a shrew.
What is ‘stop n shop’? A party store? A dollar store?
OK they already have good health care benefits with a lower-than-average deductible AND a defined benefit pension plan!! That is basically unheard of in that industry - hell it's rare in the private sector period!
And these nitwits are going on strike. SMH.
You don’t see many strikes any more. They used to be going on all the time.
That bitch has never been in a stop and shop or a market basket where middle class and the poor shop.
100% shops at Whole Foods with the other elitists.
Screw her - Ill cross whatever picket line I need to cross.
Does Lizzie not understand that Stop and Shop will pass increased operating costs on to the very people shes telling not to cross the line? Sheesh, college professors arent very smart, are they? LOL
Fair wages is what the market is willing to pay for services based on skills rendered. If you want higher wages then get better skills.
Stop and shop employees. Those are low end jobs and not worthy of much pay.
I wish I was home this week. I would dance back and forth across the line.
Its a major grocery store in Massachusetts. Maybe other states too I do not know.
Its the type of place I would shop although I do a lot of shopping at market basket, another huge grocery chain. But MB has even better prices than S&S.
Just two weeks ago I bought 11 servings of meat for 24.00. Granted I needed to cut some of the pieces to smaller sizes but it was well worth it. All good sized portions, too.
Asking your average person around here not to go to S&S is nuts.
