Spying on a political campaign is a big deal, Attorney General William Barr told a Senate committee on Wednesday morning. Barrs comments came in the context of potential Justice Department reviews of the Trump-Russia investigation and how it began in 2016.
While it is important that the top law enforcement in the United States publicly acknowledged that the Obama administration and its intelligence agencies surveilled its domestic political opponents during the heat of a presidential election, it is what he said next that was most startling: that the CIA and other federal agencies in addition to the FBI may have been involved. Im not talking about the FBI necessarily, but intelligence agencies more broadly, he said.

Obama installed loyalists in the Senior Executive Service. This allowed him to have his own private shadow government inside many different government agencies. Embeds. Since they were Civil Service and not political hires they were still there after he left office.

IMO Barr is getting to put a pretty bow on a package that has been two years in the making. He’s been brought in to manage the prosecution. Two of the previous leaders will be star witnesses against the coup plotters.
I worked at State. Even though she was using a private mail server (which I reported in 2009 and had my ass handed to me by my Ambassador less than 44 minutes after reporting it to Diplomatic Service and IRM.)
