President Trumps tax returns were front and center on Tuesday during a number of hearings on Capitol Hill.
Following the formal request by House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal, D-Mass., for copies of the last six years of the presidents tax returns, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig visited Capitol Hill, where they faced questions about when and if Trumps returns would be handed over the Congress.
Fielding questions from the House Appropriations Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee, Retting said that the final decision came down to him with Mnuchins supervision.
Rettig told a House panel Tuesday that the IRS was preparing a response to last week's letter from Neal.
During the 2016 campaign, Rettig defended Trump's decision to break with decades of tradition by refusing to release his tax filings. Under questioning at his confirmation hearing last August, Rettig pledged to uphold the political independence of the IRS.
Earlier in the day, Mnuchin told the House Appropriations Committee that his department intends to "follow the law" and is reviewing the request to hand over the returns.

Start by leaking Pelousy’s Returns.
Bingo! Logic is lost by the rabid left shysters.
WOW!!
They don’t LEARN.
They offer NOTHING but bitterness and hatred and resentment.
I had an ex like that :)
answer: “Never!”
second possible answer (but he’s too gracious to say it)....
“Never, and GTH!”
demanding people break the law (the laws that Congress itself passed).... is SO very, very Dim-O-Crappic
law breaking and Lying 24/7 (and agiprop just like the Nazis in the 1930’s) have become the Hallmarks of this new D-party
it sure ain’t the D party of our parents or grandparents, that’s for sure!
so sad... so very very sad...
If it should ever pass we need to storm the capitol; and demand every congressman rat bastard turn over their tax returns and financial records
AOC would be good place to start ,new and already rich
CONgress. Making millionaires out of dumbasses for decades.
I want an accounting of the Clinton’s money. Millions and millions of dollars flowed into their bank accounts. Now how did that happen?
Earlier in the day, Mnuchin told the House Appropriations Committee that his department intends to “follow the law” and is reviewing the request to hand over the returns.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
If they decide to release PDJT it will have the effect of casting a chill on anyone filing their tax returns, which have been absolutely private. in other words the IRS would be shooting itslef in the foot, millions of Americans will take an adversary stand against the IRS and will litigate NOT filing their returns because privacy is no longer guaranteed. As a policy matter the IRS cannot release PDJTs tax filings.
As a legal matter the house Swaya and Meannies Committee has no legislative purpose of oversight to see PDJTs returns. Certainly that Committee has not publicly released any information to verify a legislative need for that otherwise private information.IRS law requires that information to be private, so there will ba a conflict of laws. I do not expect Mnuchin to release PDJTs tax returns, but if he does, the Courts will issue a stay, and the matter will go all the way to SCOTUS. Similarly, should Mnuchin reuse to issue the Presidents tax returns. then the Dems will seek a Court order to obtain them, whcih would also be contested all the way to SCOTUS. We would not know from SCOTUS what the decision would be until a year from this June, in June of 2020.
The fact is that while the Donks are fiddling like a collective of Neros, Rome is in danger of burning because they will not initiate legislation on immigration, health care, or Homeland Security, which The People know is needed.
Hardly any way to win elections.
Trump Derangement Syndrome will allow PDJT to beat the Donks like a drum in 2020.
I have not heard even a single suspicion based on any information that there is anything in his tax returns which needs to be investigated. This is purely a vendetta and a waste of the taxpayers time and money.
Yawn.
The tax return moaning is filler for those who lack policies that would help the U.S.
Trump’s policies have helped the U.S.
There has been no time, other than Clinton signing Welfare REform, that we can say that a Democrat politician has done anything on their own, for the benefit of the U.S.
So now we have to cry and moan about tax returns? No thanks, not my business.
Ditch the Democrats 2020
Personally, I'm beyond stunned at how squeaky clean our President has proven to be thus far. A random, elderly D-list celebrity with a big mouth and piles and piles of financial successes behind him (some with lots of snarky NYC press attacking him over the years) would likely have some issues in his closet. In 3 years of hounds looking and even faking stuff, they haven't found anything noteworthy. That's pretty amazing. I honestly don't fault the Dems too much right now for their current psychotic ravings of "there has to be SOMETHING in there somewhere!!!!" I would've expected a few little tidbits in the kitty litter.
If you read between the lines in their responses ...
I’ll bet they’ll say something like “we have a duty to protect the confidentiality of every taxpayer, and you haven’t given us a specific reason why we should release this, so we are unable to meet your request”
... then watch the Dem heads explode
Turn the tables on them, Mr. President. Use language they understand. I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.
We The People want to see the tax returns for everyone in Congress as well as Hillary and Obama.
