The days of Duke Snyder, Gil Hodges, Carl Furillo, Jackie Robinson, and Pee Wee Reese are over. That is when men played baseball for the love of the game and not for the money. Guess you figured out I was a Brooklyn Dodger fan. I won’t watch any of these high paid, egotistical, primadonnas. Baseball or football.
And you didn't go over to the Mets with everyone else?
Too bad, we have a great team this year. Best announcers in the league too.
I have a copy of Peter Golenbock’s book about the Brooklyn Dodgers (BUMS), which was written in about 1984. Among the more interesting and enjoyable parts of the book (which had many), were the discussions and memories of the ballpark itself (Ebbets Field) and the surrounding neighbourhood and how ones like Snider, Robinson, Reese, and others were very well known and friendly with people there.
Would not surprise me that there were those good numbers of people who grew up in that area with the team during those years up to the late 1950s who after reading parts of the book that focused on those things (as opposed to the great moments in the team’s history) were that good deal teary eyed.
Youse was a dodja fan? I am a Yankee fan since da early 50s and da days a da Mick, Yogi, da skoota, da moose an all Dem guys! Great times laying in da back yd listening to Mel Allen call da games.
We kicked yur asses all over the city in Dem yrs. We used to pound your ace Newcombe like a batting practice pitcha..
