No, he doesn’t WANT to play hardball. He wants the cooperation of congress, and of Mexico, and a consensus of the American people. Good luck with that, however, so he WILL shut down the border if he must.
the art of the deal.
Thanks for the reference
So this article wants to essentially not punish Mexico with any kind of economic consequences, in hopes that they will magically change their minds about not doing anything about the border.
Got it, this is a Chmaber of Commerce press release.
Normal Americans don’t care about imports but they care about the future of America! All of this “globalist business” stuff cheapens what it means to be an American patriot.
We don’t need no freakin’ avocados!
Avacados were on sale at Winco foods yesterday, .98 for pretty big ones so I bought two of them.
But they are basically a nowhere item because you can’t make ice cream out of em!
We would probably not need as many avocados if we deported all the illegal aliens.....
Trump knows stopping the flow of COMMERCE (vs humans) would be harmful to the economy of the US.
We will just go back to the old method where goods are shipped to the border by Mexico and then brought through a warehouse where they are shipped to where they need to go by US truckers.
Is it less efficient than having the Mexican trucks waived through? Yes. But it works. It works just fine.
I find it disgusting that Democrats and mass media are more worried about avocados then American citizens.
Is that you Ann Coulter?
He has been educated on the fact that until the deal with China is signed the economic state of the country is precarious.
The floods of the midwest have not even ended yet, and the cost of beef and wheat is going to soar. A good fungal infection (which is normal after floods) would wipe out a lot more of it.
The unemployment rate is down as much from the boomer generation retiring as it is from expansion. Our demographic bleeding has only just started.
Take a good look at what companies are hiring: Lots of six sigma, lots of Agile production folks. Companies are looking to squeeze out as much efficiency as they can—they cannot get employees because they are not coming in at entry level—everyone wants to be a boss.
It is not going to take much to end this business cycle. One good shock and last November/December will be back with a vengeance.
That shock could be economic. It could be political. It could be military. It’s precarious.
And “our” personal finances are horrific. The median net worth for someone in their pre-retirement decade have less than $100,000 in non-home equity net worth. Do you think these people are buying a lot of capital goods? Do you think debt burdened young people 25-35 are spending a lot of money on capital goods?
That leaves folks 35-55 buying EVERYTHING. But THEY re raising kids and going into more debt.
Anyone who thinks we are in “great” shape has not scratched the surface of the gold bar—its just iron underneath.
The next few years will be interesting.
Chris Plante suggested they put Merck on it to create an avocado supplement in a pill to get libs through these trying times. A Manhattan Project for the little snowflakes.
Guacamole or sovereignty..hmmm tough choice.
He’s giving Congress a chance to do its job - when he breaks out the hardball, there will be no one with grounds to complain he’s going around the do-nothing Congress...
